We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hector Flores a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hector, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I feel for Podcasts, sooner would be the answer. There is a benefit to being first to something and I think most podcasters will tell you the same. So now the challenge is, what do I offer that the other podcasts are not? For me, that is a challenge I like facing, but creating “Insert Name” FC sooner would for sure have helped.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In 2019, I graduated from college ready to work for a professional sports team and that was immediately stopped due to the pandemic. While trying to figure out my plan, some classmates wanted to start a podcast and wanted me in it. That really never came to be, but the idea of a podcast intrigued me, so I did my research on how to start one. I decided on a podcast on soccer because I grew up playing and watching and I can talk about it for hours. Once I knew the topic of the podcast, I recruited my best friend, Edward to be my cohost because our chemistry is something that I felt would set us apart from the rest. I reached out to my brother from the Marine Corps, Roosevelt Spencer if he could provide me with some beats from the intro and closing parts of the podcast, he offered to be the producer and I accepted.
“Insert Name” FC is just simply 2 guys talking soccer in a way that anyone, whether they understand soccer or not, can enjoy. We have been able to have some incredible guests, but by far the most fun were Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros aka the Soccer Cooligans.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Right now, is to make “Insert Name” FC my full-time job. Not only for me but for Edward and Spencer as well. I think being able to focus on the show without the burden of finances would make the show even better than I already think it is.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The Storyteller by David Grohl is by far the best thing I could have read for myself. That book really assured me that taking a risk can have its reward. It also taught me of being open to opportunities. Plus its Dave Grohl, in my opinion just an overall awesome person, who I hope I get to meet one day.
