We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heceliza Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heceliza below.
Hi Heceliza, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
When I decided I would turn away from having a corporate job, I felt very confident and sure of my decision. Only at the beginning of my pursuits to have my own business did I question my choice a few times. Being an entrepreneur can be very lonely, especially not knowing many female business owners to lean on for support. It also takes a lot of energy to be a self-starter, along with courage and passion to continue day by day. When ideas or choices are a “fail”, it takes a piece of my confidence and what was once enthusiasm and excitement. Now it’s been a few years, so I cannot imagine working for a company and having a regular 9-5 job. I love having control over my schedule, what I get to do daily, how I get to do it, and bringing my ideas and inspiration into fulfillment.
Heceliza, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
There weren’t any particular events or stressors that pushed me away from trying to climb the ladder in corporate advertising and fashion. I just knew that I wasn’t helping the world one fashion handbag at a time and wanted to call in a more purposeful life. I left my dream life in NYC and booked a one-way ticket to Bali. I didn’t expect that being out there would take me on my own personal and spiritual growth journey. That journey would in turn lead me to pursue my purpose of helping others through the healing and wellness modalities that help me to constantly evolve into my best self.
As a Reiki Master Teacher and Breathwork Facilitator, I am here to support others in tapping into their own inner healer and inner wisdom by working with their energy to make the most out of their life experience.
Reiki is a system of natural healing techniques using hands to transfer “life force energy” to the recipient. I describe it as receiving an energetic hug the entire time or getting an energetic massage inside the body. In Breathwork, the parasympathetic nervous system is also activated through a period of deep, controlled, patterned breathing. The brain is tasked with a consistent breathing pattern, so it’s able to get quiet, stop the internal chatter, and quickly release a rush of all the “happy hormones”.
In both modalities, the mind and nervous system are given a chance to relax, bringing the body into homeostasis, and a deeper connection to one’s soul. That is when healing, transformation, inspiration, inner peace, and rest can happen.
Living in this modern (hustle culture) society, we expect a lot from ourselves, and trying to do it all just isn’t sustainable. We need to give our nervous system and energetic body and mind the time and space to rest, release, and rejuvenate. When we do, we can access that inner healer and inner wisdom within all.
I can only take clients as deep as I’ve gone myself. I know my intentions come from pure heart and experience to show what we are capable of when given the safe space and support.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Before the pandemic, I had been giving Reiki sessions to people within my network from time to time. All by word of mouth. I only thought I would ever just do this on the side when someone was seeking my service. I had mainly learned all these healing modalities and tools for my own personal and spiritual journey but definitely felt that I needed to share all the things that helped me with others.
During the pandemic, everyone had to figure out how to do more things virtually. That’s when I started to attract more people who needed healing, and they were coming from different parts of the world. Offering distance/virtual healings expanded my reach and made me realize how important this work is to offer. The increase in interest I saw without marketing my offerings showed me that people needed it more than ever. I then decided that I wanted to scale this business and pursue it full-time, stepping away from other product-based businesses that I was involved in. Helping others with their personal and spiritual growth journey was my soul-led purpose.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clients has always been referrals. Like any other service, most people want a reliable contact from someone whose opinion they trust. That is also the way I like to receive new clients the most because someone else found my services so helpful that they told someone else about me. It also gives a better probability that the potential client will also align and we will both be a good match for each other.
