Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heavenly Waters. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Heavenly, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on would have to be my first EP, “Variety”. This EP means so much to me because it allowed me to share the variety of emotions that one experiences during different journeys in life. I love that I was able to create and share songs that showed how one feels when they are mentally drained, and on the verge of giving up, but remembering that there is hope. Being able to write and sing about experiences that I haven’t personally experienced, but I know that so many others have, feels amazing. Doing so feels so great because it allows others to not only relate but find relief as well. I love all the songs on Variety, but one of my favorites would have to be “Light”. So many of us do not feel beautiful, handsome, attractive, etc, and possibly never have. In this song I was able to share how it was for me growing up, finding myself, and realizing just how beautiful I am. Growing up I was very insecure and in the song “Light” I share that journey and the transition from that negative mindset to my currently confident mindset. I want to inspire others to love who they are, and not be ashamed of the journey they may have taken to get to where they are. Whether it’s their educational, mental, emotional, or spiritual journey. Whatever it may be, it is so important that we embrace the journey that we’ve been on, that we’re currently on, and that we will be on.
Heavenly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a singer/songwriter that is also pursuing a career in nursing. I initially began to pursue music when I entered college. When I shared my voice, so many of my peers encouraged me to start creating music so I did. I am very proud that I listened. I provide songwriting services, features, and various vocal services. I am mostly proud of the fact that I decided to pursue and create music in the first place. I am also proud that I invested in my craft and bought recording equipment to make my music from home. I love creating music, although it can be a lot at times. It can especially be a lot when it comes down to branding myself and putting myself out there. I want my potential followers to know that I am dedicated, talented, and different from most artists. I want to be known for not only my music but who I am as a person. I want my potential followers to know that I am a follower of God, and for them to feel that when they listen to my music.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that becoming an artist meant becoming famous. When people encouraged me to start creating music, they would always mention me becoming famous. I don’t believe that being famous is a bad thing, I just don’t want that to ever be my focus. I want to always be authentically me and sometimes when we focus on becoming famous, we start to focus on what society wants to see/hear. If God decides to make me famous, so be it. For my well-being, I needed to realize that fame shouldn’t be the focus but my gift should be. God gave me this gift for a reason and that reason does not have to be anything close to fame and fortune. I want to share my voice, create music, and share it with the world. I want to impact the lives of others with my actions and my voice, even if I only impact a handful of people. I had to learn that my focus needs to be carrying out the purpose that my voice was created for.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can support artists by attending their shows, purchasing their work, and sharing their content. Being an artist during this time of TikTok and social media, in general, is great yet hard. This world is full of so many talented people that are trying to get their names out there. There are too many people that are only willing to support an artist that is already getting attention, has a lot of followers, views, likes, etc. To create a thriving creative ecosystem, society can focus more on the genuine talent that people have rather than solely on the attention that the artist is already getting.
