We recently connected with Heaven Yosef & Shabrita Patterson and have shared our conversation below.
Heaven Yosef & Shabrita Patterson, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The idea of Solstice Sisters came about when we noticed the lack of spaces for women and femmes to truly connect with one another in a deep way. The lack of sense of community was something that has been ever present in our society, but became even more pronounced during the pandemic.
We realized that oftentimes, we focus on looking to our romantic relationships for nurturing and healing and leave our friendships to the wayside. But when we do that, we miss out on the richness and depth that platonic relationships can provide. To allow yourself to be seen and held by your community is a beautiful thing, and helps to soften the edges of our internal worlds so that we can connect to others in a real way.
So ultimately, that’s what Solstice Sisters is for — to give women, femmes, and gender nonconforming people a space to be seen and to heal through companionship.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Solstice Sisters came about because of our friendship where we have found so much growth and healing, and we wanted to provide a space for others to do the same. This is a community created for women, femmes, and gender non-conforming folks to have a space to make healing connections to others and self in an approachable manner. We do this by hosting regular gatherings of all types, such as women’s circles, social mixers, picnics, and outings for opportunities to meet others.
What sets us apart from other similar groups is that we really focus on going a bit deeper through our topics of conversations. At a typical Solstice Sisters event, you’ll find a group of people gathered together with a common goal in mind — making lasting friendships. There’s usually yummy food, beverages, and a creative activity involved, all intentionally chosen to fit the theme and vibe of each event. And finally, we use conversation games to help everyone to open up and share those deeper parts of themselves.
That’s where the real magic happens — when women allow themselves to be vulnerable and connect with the community around them. Our clients may come into our events as strangers, but they leave with loving, caring friends that they didn’t have before.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We met as nurses looking for roommates in 2019. Since then, our relationship expanded to travel buddies, best friends, and now business partners. As our friendship grew, we realized how well we worked together and decided that pursuing something outside of nursing, but still in the realm of helping others, would be equally fulfilling for us.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Seeing as Solstice Sisters was created for folks to make friends, it’s only right that a lot of the people that come to our events become our friends too! Keeping in touch with those that come to our events brings a level of loyalty to our community. We love seeing folks lives and friendships with one another flourish, especially after they leave our gatherings.
Our main way of keeping in touch is online through social media. We have our Instagram and TikTok (@solsticesisters.co), and we also have Geneva, which is a server where we keep in touch with everyone! It serves as an online space where our clients can get to know each other, and even make their own plans to meet others!
