We recently connected with HeatherJo Doucette and have shared our conversation below.
HeatherJo, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Creativity has always been my gift—a lens through which I see the world in vivid detail. When I first launched Unique Frame Photography, it was because I saw beauty in the unexpected, in the candid, and in the real. My camera became my voice, my perspective, and my way of capturing what matters most: authentic moments.
After the passing of my mother, my world shifted. I leaned even more into my creativity—not only through photography but also through painting, design, and other artistic expressions. It was during that time of reflection and rediscovery that I evolved my business into H.D. Photography and Arts—a name that honors both my vision and the heart behind my work. This brand now captures more than just pictures; it tells stories through multiple mediums.
But my story didn’t end there.
As I traveled and created memories with my family, I realized how precious those experiences were. It wasn’t about the souvenirs—it was about the shared laughter, the late-night talks, the new adventures. That’s when I founded Sun-Kissed Memories—a travel business built to help families create treasures that last a lifetime. With the motto, “Where Every Trip Becomes a Treasure,” I aim to make travel more accessible, more intentional, and more magical.
Together, H.D. Photography and Arts and Sun-Kissed Memories represent two sides of the same vision:
Preserving memories, and
Creating them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
! I’m a proud mom of three incredible boys (ages 30, 21, and 13) and two amazing stepchildren. With the unwavering support of my husband—who’s always behind me through every wild idea and whirlwind schedule—I’ve been able to pursue my passion for art, photography, and travel.
My journey into photography began on the sidelines, capturing my children’s athletic achievements through the lens. That love evolved into a thriving photography business where I first focused on wildlife and sports, then grew into senior portraits. Now, as a member of a local photography co-op studio, I’ve expanded into family, fashion, headshots, and boudoir photography.
After participating in the Inked Magazine Cover Girl Competition and joining the Working Tattooed Beauties, I discovered a love for fashion and boudoir photography. This opened doors to an incredible community of empowered, like-minded women, and I even became an internationally published model. I deeply believe in uplifting other women and love creating spaces where confidence and creativity thrive.
Recently, I had the honor of photographing headshots for the amazing girls of the Acadia and St. Croix Pageants—who have invited me back as their main photographer next year!
Beyond photography, my artistic spirit shines through paint parties and DIY paint kits designed for artists of all levels. I also sell my original artwork both online and at local craft fairs—with dreams of one day hosting my very own gallery show.
And that’s not all—I’m also building a travel agency business focused on helping families and adventurers create lifelong memories. Whether it’s a relaxing getaway or the trip of a lifetime, I’m here to help you plan unforgettable experiences.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My Journey as a Studio Artist
Before I had a studio of my own, I took a leap and entered the Inked Magazine Cover Girl Contest. To my surprise and gratitude, a local radio station picked up the story and ran an article on me — this exposure brought in a wave of new followers and supporters.
When I finally found a studio space to work from, I started by promoting my work on my personal social media page to generate awareness and interest. As things grew, I began posting consistently on my business page, always remembering to share those posts back to my personal page to keep momentum going. Daily updates helped me stay visible and build a stronger connection with both current and potential clients.
Community involvement has also played a big part in my growth. There’s a local nonprofit that hosts two major events each year — a masquerade ball and a Halloween costume party — and I donate a gift certificate for each. These donations give me valuable organic exposure, and the support from my clients, who share my work with their friends and family, continues to help spread the word. I’m proud to offer a great service at an affordable price, and grateful for the community that has supported me every step of the way.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Multiple Revenue Streams Supporting My Creative Business
Yes, my business operates with several complementary revenue streams. In addition to running a full-service photography studio, I also sell fine art prints featuring my own landscape and wildlife photography.
Beyond photography, I’m also a visual artist and regularly sell original artwork. I host paint parties for a variety of occasions — including birthdays (for both kids and adults), bachelorette parties, and casual get-togethers — offering a fun and creative experience for the community.
Looking ahead, I plan to expand the art side of my business by opening a local art gallery. This space would not only showcase my work but also give other local artists a platform to exhibit and share their creations with the community. My goal is to continue growing a creative space that supports and inspires others while generating sustainable income through multiple channels.
