We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heather Rhone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heather below.
Heather, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The change I would love to see in the educational system in preparing students for a more fulfilling life and career, is a deliberate focus on assisting students in developing the relevant life skills, such as early financial literacy, collaboration, self -awareness and creativity to name a few. These skills should be taught before persons enter the world of work, whilst focusing on academic soundness is important, developing these more latent skills as well, will produce well-rounded individuals. Financial Literacy for example, will assist students in appreciating the value of saving and utilizing sound financial management as a vehicle to create the life they desire. In addition, practicing self- awareness will assist students in navigating the complexities of life in general and encourage a more balanced world view. This approach will no doubt encourage students to think “outside the box ” and realize their full potential by facilitating a certain degree of autonomy at an early age.
Developing important life skills will also assist students in becoming better leaders in the future, those who will encourage for example, collaboration instead of competitiveness, as most adult problems can be traced back to issues which occurred in childhood. Being deliberate in incorporating sound life skills within the educational system, will undoubtedly lead to more positive outcomes both personally and professionally.
Additionally, in my view, children are mostly taught to look at the world through narrow lens ie go to school, get a job, get married, have children and retire. Truth is, what should be taught at an early age and within the educational system, is that realizing your full potential is going to look different for everyone, students should be encouraged to run their own race and pursue what comes naturally to them, not their parents, not their friends and not their teachers Whilst these persons can offer guidance, students should be encouraged collectively at both the home and school levels, to develop those skills that will allow them to find their path at a much earlier age, instead of wasting time pursuing careers that are not in keeping with what they are truly passionate about.
Truth is, there is no set order in which you can achieve a fulfilling life and career, because when life gets “lifing” students should be taught that there are different routes to get to the same destination/goal. Therefore, developing this kind of open-mindedness versus closed-mindedness has to be encouraged within the educational system as early as possible, as mindset is everything.
Finally, students should also be taught that life is about constant learning and change. What I’ve found in my own experience, is that personal development regardless of age, is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, as it creates opportunities that can pave the way for a purposeful life and career in line with your passions, not limited to only the traditional ones. as in my case being able transition from corporate to being an Author/Certified Life Coach.

Heather, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Heather Rhone, mother, daughter, self-help Author/ certified Life Coach. I got into this industry primarily through a desire for a career change based on purpose, discovering my gifts and seeking to assist persons experiencing a similar journey. My focus is on helping others discover their purpose through their own experiences and become financially literate by sharing my skills and experience.
It is my belief, that being able to speak from a place of experience, allows persons to feel seen and heard. Therefore what sets me apart, is my ability to do just that, by assisting in providing solutions to persons based on shared experiences. It is through those shared experiences, that I am better positioned to offer the needed guidance. With this in mind, being able to operate from a place of knowing, makes me more relatable to my readers and potential clients.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal driving my creative journey, is to utilize my skills as a means through which I can connect with those who do not have voice . In addition, to encourage persons to also use their creativity in whatever form to get their message across. It is a fact that there is always something that will resonate with someone, as no experience is totally unique to anyone. Instructively, there are always persons who have shared experiences who are just in need of a solution.
Consequently, I believe as creatives, we ought to use our craft as a platform to elevate the collective and create a safe space through which the complexities of life can be navigated and accessed more readily through creative expression. It is my desire to leave a legacy of knowledge, through writing in a way that transcends race, age, background, education, and time.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative specifically as an author, is being able to have the freedom of expression, deciding my message and creating a positive impact . By choosing to translate my experiences into positive outcomes for both myself and my audience through a shared journey. In a world where it is so easy to focus on negativity, it takes a certain mindset to be able to convert otherwise challenging experiences into something that can uplift, encourage and provide hope, to those who may not have otherwise known how to navigate their own experience.
Equally rewarding, are the various opportunities it offers such as mentoring, utilizing opportunities to educate and get book sales, engaging in personal development to be better equipped to serve and writing in its various forms just to name a few.
I am humbled to be featured, as this provides yet another opportunity for me to educate and create an impact. I would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone who have allowed me to use my message and God given gifts to make a positive impact-something I intend to continue doing.
Additionally, I am available for speaking engagements, 1 and 1 coaching sessions with a focus on navigating challenges to birth purpose and the importance of financial literacy.
