We recently connected with Heather Rae and have shared our conversation below.
Heather , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I am releasing a brand new song called “Over My Dead Body”! The song is about standing up to someone who has tried very hard to tear you down. The idea started with a toxic relationship I found myself caught in, but the more I wrote it, the more it took on various meanings to me. I can sometimes be my own worst enemy and that just feels like a war within myself. This song is important to me because it represents all the necessary ingredients needed to get one’s life back on track: strength, grit and determination.

Heather , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Heather Rae and I’m a singer/songwriter based in Nashville, TN! I actually got my start performing as a singer, emcee and figure skater in professional ice shows. The more ice show contracts I completed, the more I realized that singing was really what I loved the most. And that started my journey as a solo artist!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
There really is no better feeling than an honest heart-to-heart with a stranger after one of my shows. When someone feels they can share a very real, personal story about themselves, I know that I created a safe enough space for them to open up and that is the highest compliment anyone could ever give me.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Yes, the book Atomic Habits by James Clear! I know it’s such a cliche answer but that book changed my life.
