We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Peppers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Heather , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will be my love for photography. For me, it’s not just taking pictures, I’m stopping time.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Heather Peppers. I am a photographer and have been into photographs since age 9. My dad was a photographer and introduced me to the world of photography at a very young age and my mom bought my first camera at the age of 9. My first job was at Harry’s Photography, a studio in Atlanta. Harry’s is where my love for portraits came to play. Although I am known for my sports photography, my love is portraits and being creative in my photos. Years in the business has taught me so much and I’ve grown to love people more and more.
I am most proud of my portraiture work with athletes and babies. I try to allow the athletes to be themselves and show their personalities while they pose for their sport. My love for the babies is just….they are babies. I love their expressions and showing their little personalities.
I want to always be known for showing expressions. Everyone expresses themselves differently which makes every photo original.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Ahhhhh, social media! When I first started, the only social media we had was word of mouth. Marketing has changed tremendously and with that, we, as business owners, have to keep up. The key to social media presence is hash tags and people/company tagging. Make sure your clients are reposting and tagging your pages to bring their audience to your pages. More tags, more traffic.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I have the BEST clients ever! Emails and messages through social media is where I get more communication but for the most part, they have my phone number and know that I’m constantly on social media and check both. I can honestly say that I’ve grown with my clients from engagements to the births of their children to the children going to college. With the athletes, I have followed them from parks & rec to college. We truly become family.
