Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heather Newman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Heather, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
The biggest defining moment would be when I completely shifted my career from being a full time musician to a full time massage/lymphatic therapist and energy healer. I get satisfaction from helping people but during my time of performing music, I had a wonderful outlet for my creative release, however, I was missing the moments where what I offered actually helped people in the moments they needed it the most. Music has always been and will always be a huge part of me, and I’m not sure I’ll ever stop performing fully. Music is also extremely healing for the soul, but the healing happened behind closed doors, it wasn’t something that I got to see in real time so even though I loved performing, there was still something missing.
However, when I became an LMT and started working with people one on one, with tangible pains and problems, it was extremely satisfying to see I could make an immediate difference. To hear clients tell me after their session that their pain had dissipated, or their range of motion increased, or they could actually look left! It fills my soul and feeds my purpose.

Heather, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the owner of The Healer’s Truth Lymphatics and a therapist at Freckled Stone Bodywork & Massage located in North Kansas City, MO. As a reiki master, I provide personalized energy healing and sound therapy, which can target blockages and density within your energy field, also known as the aura. Reiki energy healing can be beneficial for working through many kinds of emotional trauma without the need to be consciously aware of the root cause or having to relive the events by talking about them. In fact, the Center for Reiki Research concluded that four hour long sessions of reiki is just as effective as 36 hours of talk therapy! Making Reiki an excellent choice for people who aren’t comfortable discussing their situation with others.
Every month, I host a sound healing session focused on welcoming in each new Zodiac season, designed to help people let go of any energy that no longer serves their goals and to focus on the things they wish to attract into their lives. The Zodiac Sip & Sound Bath has been a really fun event, allowing the community to come together, enjoy a lovely cup of tea, and get grounded in their own energy!
I also focus on lymphatic services, providing Complete Decongestive Therapy for people suffering from lymphedema, as well as post-op lymphatic drainage, and regular MLD sessions for people who don’t have any need for the more specialized lymphatic services. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an excellent tool to boost your immune system, reduce bloating, swelling, chronic pain, and stiffness. It also reduces bruising and promotes the body’s natural healing process, speeding up recovery time for acute injuries and surgeries.
In addition to the special services, I provide everyday massage, hot stone, and cupping therapy. Himalayan Hot Stone massage has just recently been added, which combines the benefits of heat, with the remineralizing exfoliation of the Himalayan salt stones.
This year, I will be releasing The Healer’s Truth Passion app, which will bring most of my services right to your pocket! Providing lessons on self massage for specific and common body pains and problems, self lymphatic massage sequences, as well as lessons on different meditation styles (including techniques to make any meditation work for you, even if you’ve tried and “failed” before). It will also cover the basics of Human Design, which provides the blueprints for how your specific energy moves and flows through the world. Learning only a few aspects of your unique Human Design will help you to stop resisting the flow of life, allowing things to fall into place without the struggle.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The most helpful thing for success in my field is self care. Therapists who don’t practice self care will find themselves burnt out very quickly. I make sure to implement self care into my daily practices, self massage, MLD, reflexology, good sleep, healthy diet, drinking water, and making sure I stay active. Listening to my body before my client’s body is extremely important as well, it’s very to hurt yourself in this field by trying to fix other people issues rather than following your body’s limitations.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first started as a massage therapist, the most toxic thing that I had stuck in my brain was, I had to provide every massage exactly to my clients expectations rather than to my body’s limitations. Because of that, a year into my career, I was having severe pain in my left hand from extreme overuse and struggled with normal use of my left thumb and grip strength. I had to get creative during the recovery process to still provide people with quality massage sessions since I couldn’t take off a whole month to allow the tendon and muscle to restore full mobility and strength.
It was difficult to allow myself the right to say, this is what I can do, and this is what I can’t. Thanks to the success of that mindset shift, I now honor my limitations in this field and if what I do offer isn’t right for someone, I suggest other therapists who I know can exceed their expectations. It has been very freeing and has allowed me to see longevity in this career for myself as well as respect my own body.
