We were lucky to catch up with Heather McCormick recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
If I had a Time Machine and could go back in time I would definitely not choose to go back and start my art journey. I’ve always been crafty, I’ve always enjoyed aesthetically pleasing spaces, and I’ve always created miscellaneous items and gifts… so I guess I’ve always been an artist.
I couldn’t really change my actual becoming a paid artist journey because that all happened shortly after my cousin died. On my website it even says Kind Mind Art, founded in 2022 after my cousin a Mindy Lou. It was June 2022 and I ended up using art as a sort of catharsis for myself.
I was creating special new relationships in my life at the time and I was finding my true self. My art was a very big part of this journey, so I wouldn’t change the timing on it at all.

Heather, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Heather and I’m a local Cleveland Ohio mixed media artist. I am Kind to my Mind by “arting” all over the place. I create art with things I have. I love pouring paint, making my giant spinning suncatchers (I call them peace catchers), and my favorite art to make are mixed media pieces. To me, the process is more important than the outcome. I let the art lead me and I listen to the same instrument music playlist every time I create.
I do take commission and I am experienced making pieces that match certain spaces or items per my customers’ needs. I’m on Facebook at Kind Mind Art and my website is https://kmindart.wixsite.com/kind-mind-art

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission has always been kindness. I’ve always worked with the general public, particularly children and families.
I love to teach art classes to children and I always implement kindness into my lessons. I believe that kindness, and especially being kind to our own minds, is very important for our world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Without a doubt, my customers being pleased with their art and connected to it, is my most rewarding thing to experience as an artist. My art knows who it belongs to and I love that!
