We recently connected with Heather Hale and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
As an artist, every project is meaningful.
Otherwise: why create art? Just go get a job! ;-) It’s WAY easier! LOL! ;-)
Art HAS to be meaningful to you to be worth all that it takes out of and from you.
Those that originate art – screenwriters, novelists, songwriters and fine artists (painters, sculptors) – and infinite other craftsmen and artisans – are typically compelled to express something with their chosen media. Something gets under their skin and keeps them up at night, they see echoes and glimmers of their project everywhere, all the time.
In show business, producers are often drawn to books or true life stories or pre-existing intellectual property because there’s something in the story or character or theme that resonates with them, personally and/or that they think will strike a chord with the current Zeitgeist.
Directors and actors are typically hired on to help express other artists’ original visions, but they, too, have to find their unique point of entry – their personal connection to the material, for it to be authentic and truthful.
It’s just too tough, erratic and unfair a business to endure if what you’re doing isn’t meaningful.
It’s not sustainable.
But if you only work on projects that’re meaningful ;-) your calling just morphs, evolves and matures with you. ;-)

Heather, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a film and television director, producer, screenwriter; an author, consultant and speaker; a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Television Academy and ShowBiz Mensans.
I live and breathe story – and how stories illuminate the world around us.
What sets me apart, I have often been told, is that I am so uniquely right-brain/left-brain balanced. I think in accurate, vetted spreadsheets and clever, proactive strategies but can equally transmute the communal consciousness into cinematic moments, unforgettable characters and timeless, universal themes.
I am very proud of my commitment to the truth.
I’m incredibly hard working, ethical and joyfully and sincerely collaborative.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I am am full-tilt creatively inspired and intellectually stimulated all day, every day – everywhere I look.
I am curious about everything. Fascinated by life. From the huge, big, perhaps unanswerable questions to the most microscopic organic life. Everything is connected. Everything we think, say and do – write, sketch, paint, produce – MATTERS, has a ripple effect.
I can’t remember ever being bored or lonely.
If I won the lottery tomorrow, I’d keep doing exactly what I’m doing! ;-)
(Only we’d move to a lot more land! ;-) And employ – and generously pay and treat like family ;-) domestic support staff to do the housecleaning grunt work (cleaning the kitty litters and toilets! ;-) ), weed the garden and do the manual labor maintenance (freeing us to focus on the fun seasonal planning, design, harvesting and daily appreciating!), several chefs, a private trainer, masseur, maid! ;-) You get the idea! ;-)

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to make a difference.
I want to leave a legacy that has some sort of significant, beneficial impact.
I don’t think I’m anywhere close to achieving that – but I work harder and smarter and more intentionally every day! ;-)
