We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Gaston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I had my first farmers market and there was a young boy. He only had a dollar left and wanted to buy his mom a soap. He said I’ll be back with more money. I said no you just pick out whatever you want. His eyes light up and said really. I said yes you pick out whatever you want. I have given away so many products to people because I know how it feels to want something. I like the enjoyment that it brings to help people feel good and better about themselves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
.My name is Heather and I am the proud owner of a small sugar scrub business in central Minnesota. All of my products are homemade and all natural. When I make my products I try to make sure that they are compatible with each other. Every product that I make I test them on myself. I got started with my business when COVID was first here so I have had it for almost 3 years. I try my best to please my clients and so far everyone has been pleased with what I have made. I have finally came up a mixture that bubbles up but makes your skin soft for a few days after you have used them. I am trying to stick with the organic more because I myself have sensitive skin.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After 28 years of working in the medical field. I decided to make a career change. It was a change that I do not regret. I decided to go work for my daughter. who has a small business and needed help. She continues to help me improve my business as well. Life is about change and chances . This was the best choice that I have ever made. It was hard at first but working with her has taught me a lot. Success is hard and if you want more out of life you have to be willing to take a chance.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think that showing people that you are determined and willing to succeed.
