We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Fox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Heather , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Knowing what your gifts and skill sets are and use them to your advantage. Being focused and self disciplined
Understanding there maybe failures and that’s ok. You learn from it and move on.
Finding and knowing your purpose
Focus on your passion and the success or money will come later
Having an abundance mindset
Being around people who are successful and learn from them.

Heather , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
All of my life, I found myself being curious about health and wellness and the human body. I was a science nerd. I loved learning about biology, chemistry, and physics. When I was growing up, we had both the encyclopedias and medical encyclopedias and I would go through them to learn about different things. I found myself really intrigued about the human body. My mother thought I would become a nurse or doctor. However, I don’t like the sight of lots blood and bodily fluids or torn body parts. It was disturbing to see that trauma on people and feel their suffering. Later on in life, I came to realize that I am an empath meaning I feel others emotions and pain consciously or subconsciously. As a teen, I always had this gift of knowing how to massage others starting with my family, friends, and coworkers but didn’t think of doing this at all as a career. During my college years, I soon came to realize that I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life after I kept changing my major in college and struggled. I soon dropped out of college because I needed to work to survive. It took me a long time to realize my calling or purpose in life was to heal others but I didn’t know it would lead me to being a massage therapist now. Massage therapy is my second career path. I was a makeup artist prior to that and working dead end jobs to support that career. So in 2012, I decided to study clinical massage at a community college and graduated the following year with straight A’s and pass the exam for my licensure in 2013. I realize now, although the program was tough, I manage to do well when I was so passionate about it that I didn’t mind the work. I absolutely loved learning the program because it aligned with my purpose in life.
For several years, I worked at different massage practices ranging from chiropractic centers, franchises, private massage practices, and mobile massage practices. It took time to build clientele and attract the clients I wanted. I also kept learning other modalities to add to my skill set. I specialize in chronic pain and injury recovery, so my work and touch is very therapeutic. I have clientele ranging from all age groups mainly those who either active and work in offices dealing with chronic pain and tension. I have specialty such Spinal Reflex Therapy, Massage cupping, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Prenatal massage, and Manual Lymph Drainage and now recently became a Reiki Master or Reiki level 3 Practitioner. So now, I am also getting in to energy healing and want to go into that further. I feel this helps me become a holistic healer connecting the body, mind, and spirit. With each session, I customize my session by goals and needs and intentions of my client. I use my intuition, skills or modalities to address my clients needs for treatment and help facilitate their own healing.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Most of my successful marketing is building relationships with people in the industry and provide a referral resource to each other. For instance, I rent space in a float spa because we work well together by referring each other and I also have a professional relationship with a physical therapist and chiropractor that I refer clients to. Of course we all have used services from each other and can genuine refer clients/patients back and forth to each other when it’s needed.
I also try to optimize my searches so they can find me on the internet by using an SEO. Ranking on google. I have a google business profile and I am on google maps.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Organic marketing such referrals from professionals or client referrals, I use Yext to access all of the business profiles on all search engines to bring my SEO ranking up and keyword searches.
