Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heather Ford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Heather, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name My Fair Fête was ideated by the film My Fair Lady and the array of meanings for the word ‘fair.’ Did you know that ‘fair’ is an adjective, noun, and verb? Inspired by the charming transformation of feminine elegance portrayed in the classic film My Fair Lady and by French romanticism, My Fair Fête embodies the essence of life’s celebratory moments, planning, designing and producing the events of your dreams.
Heather, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My academic background is in journalism, wherein I received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism: News & Editorial at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a vast majority of my professional background is in recruiting at Google, Amazon Music, and Walmart. One of my former corporate recruiting roles encompassed planning large-scale corporate events while I was simultaneously planning my own wedding. It occurred to me during this time of my life that I had a natural gift for event planning and a great love and passion for event design, hence the conception of My Fair Fête. I specialize in luxurious and timeless events of all natures: birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, open houses, and weddings. I also offer custom chalkboard design for events and businesses, which has been a wonderful creative avenue. My ability to manage event logistics and planning while delivering creative vision and design allows me to offer each client I work with impeccably coordinated, gorgeous events. I am proud that I approach every client and event with a process and expertise that yields success each and every time.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I first launched My Fair Fête, I created a social media presence for the following channels: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. I initially updated each channel regularly and with similar content and cadences, however my social media presence has evolved to predominantly Instagram and Facebook, with an emphasis on the former. I established a formula that works for me and the aesthetic I want to achieve: nine photos from an event I have planned, designed and produced or nine inspirational photos in a specific colour palette, followed by one photo of one of my chalkboard designs, split into nine photos. I also create reels from time to time, but I am currently most invested in high quality photos from my own events. I haven’t transitioned into the realm of Snapchat or TikTok yet. The audience and momentum I’ve established on Instagram and Facebook is complementary to my availability and bandwidth at present. I would recommend defining your brand and aesthetic for anybody who is starting to build their social media presence. Be consistent in what and how you publish. I would rather not share content than publish something just for the sake of being present.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals, local word-of-mouth marketing, and Instagram have been the best sources of new clients for me. I always ask clients how they found me or heard about me and these three sources have consistently delivered results.
