Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heather Ferguson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
When I was a young girl…I was the one that was bullied and picked on in school. I was not in the “popular group”. Though it was difficult, what it taught me in life was to always be kind to people and make others feel good about themselves! I was always an artist and a creative from about 5 years old! I loved getting immersed in the colors and the paints on my blank canvas and how you could make something beautiful with your imagination and a brush! As I grew older, I started noticing people’s faces and their individual features and thought how it would be so fun and beautiful to accent their features with makeup…essentially using the bare faces as a canvas and makeup as my paint medium. I started doing makeup for friends and my Mom and I found it came extremely naturally to me and I found that the smile and glow that would come after I finished..was so rewarding to me. I was hooked and began perfecting my craft and the rest as they say is history!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Though it was difficult, what it taught me in life was to always be kind to people and make others feel good about themselves! I was always an artist and a creative from about 5 years old! I loved getting immersed in the colors and shading in light and dark and the paints on my blank canvas and how you could make something beautiful with your imagination and a brush! As I grew older, I started noticing people’s faces and their individual features and thought how it would be so amazing and beautiful to accent their features with makeup…essentially using the bare faces as a canvas and makeup as my paint medium. I am mainly a bridal hair and makeup artist and am a weekend warrior every weekend for my job. I travel on site to hotels and airbnb’s where the bride and bridal parties are and set up my beauty tools and get to work creating magic as they say! I’ve done…thousands of faces and formal hair stylings by now as I’ve done this wonderful craft for almost 25 years!
I had a bride once that had fallen and hit her face 2 days before her wedding. She called me saying I didn’t have to come help her because her face was a mess from the fall. Well…I took that as a very personal challenge to go and help her even more because I felt so sorry for her. It took me a while..but she cried happy tears when she looked in the mirror and saw what I was able to do for her so she could still get married that day and feel Beautiful!
It is to this day one of my most proud moments!!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn how to not worry what my competitors were doing and focus more on my own craft and how to keep my eye on what I am doing for my business and not what everyone else in my industry does! Every artist does things a little differently and that is ok!!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My artistry has always been an expression of my creative thoughts on colors and beauty! When you focus on doing what you love and it comes naturally to you…it doesn’t seem like work but more of a fun passion that you get paid for!
When I first started out…no one knew what I could do. I emailed other creative in my industry and introduced myself and told them about me as a person and an artist and hoped someone would reach back out to me!! Luckily..they did! As time went by, by doing a good job and being a good solid reliable vendor, word eventually got out! Word of mouth from other reliable resources that trust you, is your best source!
