Heather , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I would not be in the position I am now with my business if it were not for my family and friends support. What started solely on word of mouth and repeat customers has grown tremendously throughout the past 10 years. This has gone far beyond the hobby I started. Having a strong presence in the community and meeting customers face to face has also helped gain attention to my business. It’s not always about the sale, I am grateful for any like, comment, review, personal thank you and recommendations that I receive and often ask my customers to do so. It’s not always about the sale, but the connections that make you succeed.

Hi there, my name is Heather Elzinga. I was born and raised in Northern Michigan and always a part of the Hospitality Food Industry. What started as a hobby, quickly expanded into a thriving cake decorating business where my talent and creativity was sought out by many family, friends and repeat customers. I provide birthday cakes, wedding cakes, custom creations and pastries for all life events and celebrations. This is not your average cake, what sets me apart from others is the attention to detail, personalized themes, and luxury style designs that are next level. I am also excited to share that I have continued my education and earned a diploma in Pastry Arts and am in the process of licensing a kitchen to further expand my business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Creating a website for my business to showcase my portfolio has been the best source of new clients. I am thankful for the amount of inquiries I receive daily from locals and tourist searching for custom ordered cakes.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am very personable and have served my local community for 15 years. Being face to face with potential clients, sharing my success stories, and offering samples has helped me gain exposure and important lifelong relationships. I strive to make the ordering process simple and go above and beyond on each product I serve.
