We were lucky to catch up with Heather Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Mindset determines success.
I remember when I had finally made the decision to quit my job and completely shift gears. I was well aware of the risk involved, but at that time the idea of staying where I was felt more risky. By the time I had made that decision my mind was made up. I didn’t even see failure as an option. I believe my mindset at the time was what it took to be successful. I never let myself envision failure or quitting. Someone once told me — take a chance on yourself, it will take time to be successful and if you worry about the time it will take just remember, time passes anyway. That stuck with me in the beginning. The time will pass and next week, next month, and next year you will be closer to that goal.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, first and foremost I’m a Mom and Wife. When I decided to open my own business being a Mom and Wife came first and I built my business around that boundary. This is my second career, I originally spent time in Marketing and other various jobs, but I’ve always had a love for esthetics. As a teen I struggled with cystic acne, that was the mid 90’s and we didn’t have the options we have now or the education. Once I finally gained control of my skin I had developed a deep compassion for those who struggled in the ways I did, especially teens. So when I finally realized that I needed to make a change for myself and my family I decided to lean into that passion of helping others feel more confident in their own skin.
I have been in the Beauty Industry for 6 years. I’m a licensed Esthetician and Cosmetic Permanent Makeup Artist. As an Esthetician I specialize in acne solutions and anti-aging skincare. I offer facials, peels, lash lifts and tints, and brow shaping and tint. As a Cosmetic Permanent Makeup Artist I specialize in hyper realistic artwork for eyebrows and eyeliner. Soon I will be offering tiny tattoo’s as well!
I’m most proud of how being a provider in this industry directly affects how others feel about themselves. I have a unique opportunity to provide confidence in various ways for my clients. It’s an unforeseen reward and benefit of this industry. My number one goal as a provider is to meet my clients where they are, listen to them, and create solutions.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think honesty has helped me build my reputation within our market. I’m very open and honest about expectations for certain procedures or products. I offer my clients free consultations as a way to help them feel more comfortable about the decision they are making. For example, permanent makeup isn’t for everyone, and honestly, that’s ok. I offer several other services that are designed for the majority. With that being said, it’s my job to be honest with my clientele and let them know when they are not a candidate for certain services. I’m the one with the education and there for the burden of truth lies with me. It isn’t in their best interest for me to just give them what they want if what it leads to is poor results. I think having ethics goes a long way with clients and at the end of the day it’s peace of mind for me.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clientele would have to be referrals! It’s also the best compliment! I love knowing that the experience my clients have is good enough to share with their family and friends.
