We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Heather thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Becoming a Bookstagrammer has been on of the biggest risks I’ve taken. When I decided to start my account back in 2019 Bookstagram was just starting. Putting myself out there for the whole world to see was pretty scary. In my mind why would anyone want to follow a Instagram book account from a girl in Utah. I wasn’t popular and at the time wasn’t reading the latest books.
But I took that risk and it has definitely paid off. From my first follower to now my 11.5K followers I still try and be myself. Taking a risk doesn’t mean you change who you are, you just make yourself better.
Heather, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Bookstagrammer. For those who don’t know what that is let me briefly tell you. It’s a section on Instagram dedicated to strictly books and bookish things. We read books and leave reviews for others to see. We discuss the latest books and all the good and bad that goes along with it. We feature authors and businesses selling bookish items.
My Bookstagram page is called Bookedwithheather. I take requests from authors and publishers to feature books or read an advanced copy and give them my honest review.
I would say that one of the things I think that makes me different is I stay true to myself. I don’t pretend to be someone else and will always give my honest opinion on a book. If I hated it, I’ll be sure to say. If it was amazing I will list all the things that made it that way. I don’t sugar coat things because that’s not who I am.
Bookstagram is my saving grace and my escape. Because books will definitely take you places.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Since the beginning of time there have been books, and books will be around until the end of time. My goal is to continue to read as many books as I can until my time is up. I want to be a resource for those who are just getting into reading or those who are already book nerds. I want my page to be a place other can look to to find something good to read.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding things about being a Bookstagrammer is having a discussion with someone about a book I recommended. Having them tell me it is now there new favorite book or that the book changed their life. Seeing their excitement whether that be through their voice or the words they type on a screen. It definitely makes you feel special.
