We were lucky to catch up with Heather Burch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heather , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would have started my own business a lot longer ago. I was always so hesitant to start because everyone always told me I need to go to college and have a degree in order to make a living. Which now I have learned that is not true. If you have the passion and desire, you can achieve anything. I have a medical background and have worked at the hospital for 12 years. I have always had a passion for helping others but then realized I wanted to pursue my beauty career. I am so happy that I have, just of course, wish I started when I was younger, however, nobody is ever too young to start doing what they love.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always wanted to work in the beauty industry but everyone always scared me away. After getting my brows microbladed, I instantly fell in love and then started doing my own research of how I can make others feel so amazing. I have taken a couple classes on permanent makeup and finished my esthetician school a year after taking my PMU classes. I have my own private room located within Styling @E Hair Salon. The services I offer are: Microblading, Powder Brows, 3D Combo Brows, Brow Tinting, Teeth Whitening, Plasma Fibroblasting, Custom Facials and Full Body Waxing. I also sell Skin Script facial products and Babe Lash Serum. I am so proud of myself for overcoming my fears and anxiety and pursuing what I love. When doing brows I always go for the most natural looking shape and color. My clients always walk out feeling and looking amazing. I also offer free consultation’s.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing my clients reaction after receiving any of my services. From beautiful brows to glowing skin after a facial. Also another rewarding aspect of being an artist is watching my art grow over the years.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When starting off I felt kind of lost and not exactly sure on everything. I did some trial and error and have learned from my mistakes but I wish I had a mentor when first starting out so I didn’t have to waste so much money. For example, I already had my LLC for my business I then needed to apply for my EIN. Long story short I got scammed and paid for my EIN when it’s actually free on the IRS website. That is why I want to start a mentorship program to help other entrepreneurs when starting a business.
