We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heath Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heath below.
Alright, Heath thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project would be my second full album “Indian Burial Ground” for my band From the Grave. That record is special for a few reasons, but mostly I am proud of how From the Grave persevered through those uncertain times of the pandemic. Life imitates art far more than art imitates life and looking back, I almost had to get lost in it to see the record through during that time. A few songs on the record were the first songs I wrote for the band in 2006. It felt great finally seeing my vision come to life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Looking back, I think the music and the horror movies I watched as a kid planted the first seed. I come from a family of musicians and still listen to the music my parents turned me onto like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, and ZZ Top. My uncle is a hell of a musician and taught me a lot about tone, playing with emotion, and tube amplifiers. Writing has always been my first love, so it’s a good marriage between writing, music, and art for me.
My last full-length album “Indian Burial Ground” and the times during the making of that record, seemed plagued. Getting that record out and surviving those four years felt like a new lease on life. I love this new music and look forward to what’s to come. Without fans of my music I wouldn’t be where I am today, let alone have survived this long. Everyone who came to the shows, bought tickets, streamed music, or bought vinyl at a local record store, I salute you! This next record will be for you, one for the underdogs.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Buy straight from the source! You can purchase physical copies from the band’s website or request vinyl at your local record store. So many record stores have been a huge support. Other ways of support would be to come out to a live show and make a purchase at the merch table.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a musician is the journey and the places my guitar has taken me.
