We recently connected with Heartbreak Hutch and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Heartbreak thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Pursuing music professionally wasn’t even a choice for me; the feeling to create comes naturally every day. Whether it’s music, design, or building something from scratch, I’m someone who was born to make music!
Heartbreak, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was originally born and raised in Decatur, Georgia, before relocating to South Carolina in 2012. Music has been a part of my life since early childhood, around the age of 5. Attending church with my mother, I was always captivated by my cousins who played in the band. Instead of sitting in the congregation, I would eagerly sit with them to watch them play. Witnessing how the music uplifted them and others, I immediately knew this was something I had to learn.
Fast forward to the present day, after years of teaching myself how to make beats and write my own lyrics, I can confidently say that my craft is polished enough to garner the attention of my peers and many others across the Carolinas and neighboring states.
What I’m most proud of is having my own studio, which I built from the ground up. This project took about three months to complete, but the results will last a lifetime. Having my studio has provided me with the freedom to create as I want and has also allowed my friends to unleash their creativity. I’ve been able to shoot videos, record albums, and even host events!
I want people to know that I am an example of never giving up on your dreams. No matter how tough life gets, you have to recognize that you’ve grown and progressed since the past. Take the lessons you’ve learned and apply them to whatever you want to achieve in life, and I promise you will see results!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe the best way to support artists is to create more opportunities and events where they can showcase their talent. Take, for example, “Showtime at the Apollo,” which serves as a perfect model for allowing creatives to demonstrate their skills and receive feedback, whether positive or negative. By implementing a similar formula in communities lacking such outlets, we can foster positive change and economic growth within those areas. It’s a win-win situation!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to create a record and then perform it on stage. It’s a full-circle moment for me, reminiscent of my childhood when I watched my cousins perform for the church. I always yearned for that feeling of captivating a crowd with my music, and there’s nothing more satisfying than achieving that across multiple platforms.
