Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Haze Tha Ripper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Haze thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My Anxiety EP. That tape’s full of songs coverin everything from suicide, drug use, love, meditation, anxiety, depression, to silk robes & a stoge of tha finest herb. It’s a collection of true life stories, wisdom, and questions, all wrapped up in an upper echelon exhibition of Hip Hop. I’ve had fans write or approach me with stories of how my expression through music has saved their life or inspired them in their darkest moments.

Haze, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From Rakim to Black Thought to Struggle Jennings I’m a student and fan of this craft and have been since my beautiful mom bought me a lil Fisher price cassette player with a mic.
I used to scribble on my hands or arms if I had no paper to write on, until I became homeless at 16 and ran tha streets freestylin and performin anywhere from partys and venues to parks. Through repetition I learned to write in my head tha way we learn songs we love and can recite/perform them with ease.
My music is for tha broken souls, fans of lyricism, and those who seek counsel and an escape through tha power of music. My purpose is to heal and use this medium I love to spread messages to those who might not receive them otherwise. “Spillin this in cadence so them children listen, play this.”
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Sometimes people dont understand the depth of lyricism that some emcees push their art to. I’ll spin a conscious story or break down emotions in a flow rhymin 15 syllables all in perfect alignment in a row, while sprinklin in metaphors and double or triple entendres. There’s layer after layer to dissect.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Push expression and modern music in schools more. Let them write songs and perform or make beats instead of plastic recorders and flutes. Let their stories get told.
