We recently connected with Hayley Tillman and have shared our conversation below.
Hayley, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
When I went to school for Cosmetology it was a nightmare. Very few educators knew what they where doing it didn’t really care about your growth. Anytime I had a question it was always answered with “ just YouTube it” so pretty much I was on my own for any growth. I didn’t even get a teacher for my stateboard class. I had to lock myself in a room to study the 5 hour days alone of stateboard regulations and procedures. So I took the initiative to really educate myself and my other class mates the best I could. I’m thankful I went into school with some knowledge of hair and salon life thanks to family members who had a amazing career in Hair and salon ownership. I read and watch anything and everything that had to do with hair and the things I wanted to specialize in. And I now with no help from my school run a pretty successful business doing hair. One of my goals in my career is when I’m older and my body won’t allow me to physically do hair I want to teach. I want to be that hands on educator that actually teaches and helps students find their passion and love for hair. I want to make a change in how it’s ran. I want to make students feel like they are actually leaving school prepared and educated for their new journey. Not scared., Angry and stressed because of lack of education. We need friendly, kind and passionate teachers in the hair world because my story about school isn’t one of a kind it happens at almost every school. I felt so alone and on my own in school it’s frustrating and I know my fellow classmates feel the same. I have friends who graduated but are to scared to get into the field because they feel so unprepared. So one day I hope to be that change and really be there for students and teach them what they need to learn.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My Name is Hayley and I’m a Licensed Hair stylist . I specialize in Vivid colors and balayage. I love all things hair but those two services are my favorite. It really lets my creativity flow. In my salon we use redkin products are they are amazing. I got into the hair world because I love to be creative and make people see their beauty. A lot of women come in looking for a change in their hair because they want to feel beautiful. They are already gorgeous and when they come in my goal is to give them their hair dreams and feel that beauty we already see. I strive to make a comfortable environment and make them feel like they are spending their session with a friend. I try to take my time to really care for their hair and their needs and make sure they leave feeling satisfied
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with clients is huge! I keep in contact with them via text messages. I always reach out a few days after the service to make sure they are still in love with their hair or if there is anything that needs adjustments. And then I reach out again in a Week or two to just check in and see how they are feeling and make sure all is well:. Keeping in contact is key to building a relationship with your clients making them feel like your there for them and truly care. After each service we go over a products that will help keep their hair feeling and looking it’s best and I also provide samples if they want to try something out.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
So I offer a wide range of payment options. We are working on getting a atm but for now we offer either payment through my booking site, square, Venmo, cash or Zelle giving the clients a option on how to pay for services and retail.
