We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hayley Rodriguez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hayley below.
Hayley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I’ve ever had was my first employer right out of grad school. Chris had been practicing acupuncture for many years and had a thriving business in Orange County. He took me out for coffee for my interview and it felt like I was chatting with an old friend. I was hired the following week. Being a newly licensed, Chris took me under his wing and taught me everything I needed to know to become a successful acupuncturist. It’s one thing to memorize books and case studies, it’s a whole other ballgame when it comes to real-life patients. He was kind, patient, an incredible mentor, and leader. Chris was fair and generous. He always treated us to lunch, made sure I received my weekly acupuncture treatments and even encouraged me to take vacations! What boss does that? He was the epitome of balance, knowing that in order to work well, you must rest just as well. I am forever grateful for his wisdom and the time I had working along side of him.
Hayley, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been interested in the body’s own healing abilities and natural medicine for as long as I can remember. So when I was struggling with the stress of college and extremely painful periods, I thought I would give acupuncture a try. I was amazed at how well my body responded. I ended up asking my acupuncturist if I could intern with her! After witnessing how people benefited from this ancient medicine, I had to learn more. I knew that I wanted to share the magic of acupuncture with others.
I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from UC Santa Barbara in 2014. I went on to receive my Master’s in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture from South Baylo University in 2017. I am a fully insured, Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist with the state of California and certified in the Clean Needle Technique. I specialize in pain relief and I offer the following services: acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, Reiki, moxibustion, ear seeding, herbs, and supplements.
I am also a certified Usui Reiki Master. I have been practicing Reiki since 2017 and I love adding this to an acupuncture treatment. I find the emotional and physical healing benefits of the acupuncture and Reiki combo extraordinary, especially for anxiety and depression. Reiki is a gentle hands-on energy healing system that can help bring peace and balance to your life.
If you haven’t given Chinese Medicine a try yet, you’re missing out! Acupuncture is relatively painless. We use very thin, flexible needles to stimulate the acupuncture points. After all the points are placed, most people fall asleep, it is deeply relaxing. It can help with pain, tension, headaches, migraines, vertigo, digestive issues, menstrual pain/irregularities, stress, anxiety, depression and a lot more. Cupping is also another fantastic tension and pain melter. It is great to add on to an acupuncture treatment. But don’t be fooled by the intense marks! Cupping feels incredible!
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I believe that being personable and a great listener are keys to succeeding in my field. I have countless patients who come to me after having their symptoms dismissed and passed around from specialist to specialist with no solutions to their problems. These patients tell me how grateful they are that I take the time to understand their situation. In as fast-paced as our society is, I think it is important to take that extra moment to let people be heard.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth. Providing quality results and having happy patients is the best marketing you can have!
