We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hayley McAfee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Number one for 4Parts Design is a focus on the client experience. Customer service is important in any industry, but for me, I like my clients to have full accessibility to ask questions and raise concerns – whether it’s through e-mail, phone or zoom. Building a brand has a lot of moving parts and it can be very overwhelming for anyone doing it for the first time. It’s a partnership and my goal is to make sure my clients know I’m there for them to walk them through the integral steps from conception to completion. Flexibility is also key in my industry. The wine industry is always evolving, so keeping up with the trends and innovations aides my clients in building a successful brand. I’ve built a network of talented printers, illustrators and web developers and we have mutual trust in one another to deliver high quality projects on time and within budget.
I have a lot of passion and commitment for my job, I love what I do and feel lucky every day to be challenged and excited about my projects. I’ve always been a highly organized and detailed oriented person which I believe keeps things running smoothly.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A brand is a unique collection of a story and all the visual identity components. These components, which include logos, emblems, colors, fonts and patterns, create a brand language that a company will use to tell its compelling story and reach the audience.
Our goal at 4Parts is brand consistency. We strive to create designs that can be used and adapted across all your products and through all marketing outlets.
Package Design
Package design not only includes label design, be it a traditional label or alternative options, but also bottle choices, corks and capsule design and outer packaging.
Website Design
Your website should fit the needs of your brand. We keep your messaging concise and your branding consistent whilst effectively engaging the consumer to experience your brand online.
Branding
Branding defines all that you do – this has never been more important than in today’s crowded market. We help set the tone and ensure all your messaging, imagery, and consumer touch points are consistent, authentic, and engaging.
Logo Design
The face of your brand needs to tell a story. We work with you to create the key points of your brand as well as brand standards for consistent identity throughout all platforms.
Collateral
We create everything from point of sale items to business cards, tasting notes, coasters, clothing, glassware, menus, brochures and more. You name it, we’ll design it!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Forming relationships with printers and web developers has been a great source for new clients for me over the years. Understanding how my printers require files to be set up or how my web developers like to work to move a brand from a package design to a full blown website and an online store is key. There are so many moving parts in building a new brand, it’s important to work with people you trust and who are able to see your vision.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing my client’s brand come to life on the store shelf, in a tasting room or restaurant or online is always highly rewarding. Helping the brand grow further from the initial launch is always an exciting part of the journey too. I love to see how we can expand the portfolio into other products or use the existing branding elements to create POS design or trade show design – the possibilities are endless!
