We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hayley Bookhammer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hayley below.
Hayley, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
My entire life, I have thrived on creativity and independence. After having a baby two years ago, I found that with being a stay at home I had a lot of free time, but no true outlet. I had a dream one night that I was a National Geographic photographer and I woke up the next morning and bought my first camera. I knew nothing about photography and was quickly humbled by how much skill and passion it takes to take a great photo. I spent months taking online courses, watching every YouTube video about photography known to man, practicing on friends and family and offering free sessions to practice and build a portfolio. Pretty soon, I was booked every weekend and thriving. I absolutely love what I get to do for a living and my creative needs are met.
Hayley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a photographer based in Dallas, Ga. I specialize in weddings, engagements, maternity, in home newborn and family sessions. You name it, I’ve captured it. I describe my style as warm, intimate and playful. I focus on natural interactions opposed to posed photographs, but still give directions and prompts to ensure you look and feel your best. If you book me for your wedding, I am with you from start to finish. We start with a complimentary engagement session for us to get to know each other and see what works best while working together. I work with your coordinator to create a customized timeline for your wedding day and we can meet for coffee about a month before your ceremony to discuss all of the important details. I am your built in best friend for the day and I promise that we will have a blast creating these perfect memories.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media marketing is difficult! I still struggle keeping up with Instagram and Facebook for HayleyB Photography. I have learned that consistency is key when it comes to building a social media following. Every Monday, I sit down and schedule posts for the entire week based on the time frames that my audience is most active on social media. Word of mouth and local Facebook groups are the best when it comes to growing small businesses and I am thankful for everyone who likes and follows my socials.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My five year goal is to be successful enough in my career that allows me to step away from my part time job and focus solely on photography. I’d love to create and sell photography courses, preset packs and hire a team to work along side me.
