We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Haylee Amparo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Haylee below.
Haylee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I can remember the feeling from as beginning as kindergarten. I went throughout my school years knowing I wanted to be bigger than most people my age had planned. For one project I remember I told my class when I grew up that I wanted to sing and be famous on tv shows like Hannah Montana, and my entire class started laughing. It was in that moment that I realized how separate I was from other people my age. My parents always walked in on me giving concerts on my bed to my stuffed animals. I grew up loving attention and always wanted to be the star of every room I walked in. I looked up to my inspirations so deeply and knew that I was always meant for a life like that. Throughout high school I was in choir and theater and performed and various events. During college knowledge weeks at school I felt isolated. They put so much pressure on us to decide which schools we wanted to apply to and what career paths we wanted. Every year it stressed me out because I knew I wasn’t going. I knew I was meant for bigger things.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m somebody who’s always been authentically myself. I love expressing myself and the things I love. I love very loudly. I’m passionate and make it very known. Growing up and knowing I wanted to do this for a living has impacted my view on the world and my interactions with people. I live for performing and creativity expression. I’ve always found my best outlets of creativity through music and films and writing and dancing. I’m most of the fact that I have not given up on my dreams despite everything that’s happened to me throughout my life. I lost my mom recently and I feel as if all I want to do is disappear and hide. I do however know that is the last thing she would want. I need to push through the pain and use it as a driving force. I want to write songs and tour the world and be in movies and tv shows just like she had always known I’ve wanted to do. I feel that I come from a very real and authentic background. I didn’t grow up with any connections or money. Just me myself and my dream.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Definitely losing my mom. She was the biggest light in my life. My biggest cheerleader. If anyone wanted to see me succeed it was her. She always had my back and encouraged my crafts. I couldn’t imagine a world without her but unfortunately now I have to live in that world. I’ve had many losses in my life and dealt with many traumas that have caused me throughout the years to dull my sparkle. To set me back. Yet throughout it all the last thing i’ve ever wanted to do was give up on my dreams of making it in the industry.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me it’s being able to tell stories through my art. I love being able to channel my pain and feel so deeply and have an outlet to pour it into. Everyone has ways of dealing with their feelings and for me music is such a freeing thing to be able to get it all out. My favorite thing about my favorite artists and songs is connecting with them. I only hope that one day people can do the exact same with my lyrics and my music.
