We were lucky to catch up with Hasan Jafri recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hasan, thanks for joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I really enjoy being a business owner. It brings me great joy to wake up everyday and work in a family business. We are constantly trying to innovate and change but all the innovation and change that is done in the business needs to support our mission which is to bring the best products and best service to our clients without sacrificing on quality in either of those facets. I do wonder what I would be doing if I were not in the family business. My favorite thing about this business is people and product. I enjoy working with everyone in the process from the weaver all the way down to the client and everyone in between.


As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Hasan Jafri and I am the Director of Dover Rug and Home. We are a rug and carpet retailer in the Boston area and have been in business for 36 years. We sell hand made area rugs as well as carpeting for stairs, rooms, and custom cut to fit projects. We also offer cleaning and repair services. I have been working at the business since 2014 when I graduated college. My sales are split between the consumer and interior designers. I help people find the right rug or carpet for their home or project in the right style, color, quality, and price point. What I am most proud of is the satisfaction we provide our clients. We hope our clients have the same happiness and appreciation for our brand through out every step of the process. I enjoy waking up everyday and serving my clients and working on new product to help the needs of the consumer. What sets us apart is our attention to detail and our customer service. We are open seven days a week and our clients needs take priority over everything.


Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Manufacturing and product development is one of the most important aspects of our business. As our companies mission is to bring the best products to our clients we want to make sure that our manufacturers overseas share the same vision and understand our high level of excellence. I spend a lot of time with our manufacturing teams in India and Pakistan- where most of our product comes from- to ensure that we are creating the best quality and best looking products for our market. Becuase buying a rug or carpet is not an everyday occurrence for a customer- we want that purchase to be something they feel strongly about and that it’s a product that lasts a lifetime. We also need to continue to develop our styles, fibers, price points, and customization options to meet our clients needs and the constantly changing aesthetics and styles within interior design.


What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
While we advertise on almost all platforms-I always say our strongest source of new clientele is word of mouth. This is the source of new business that brings me the most joy as well. To know that someone would personally recommend a friend, family member, or co-worker to work with Dover Rug shows they are loyal to the brand and believe it could benefit those close to them. We are proud to have so many repeat customers and have serviced multiple generations of a family.
