We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Harsha Chathuranga. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Harsha below.
Harsha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Learning is a lifelong process, and I’m constantly seeking new opportunities to expand my skills and knowledge in my field. When it comes to design, I had the opportunity of learning from some of the best professionals in the industry, as well as through my practice and mistakes. Mastering graphic design is a gradual process that requires time, commitment, and dedication to develop a strong skill set. I’ve also found that staying up to date with the latest design trends and tools is crucial for success in this field.
I firmly believe that a solid understanding of design fundamentals, including color theory, typography, and layout, is essential in building a portfolio. It’s also important to be able to communicate effectively with clients and team members, as well as to be able to adapt to new challenges and technologies.
Time constraints, a lack of resources, and a fear of failure are all obstacles to learning more. However, pushing through these obstacles and staying committed to learning have been vital to my growth as a designer.
In short, being proficient at what I do has required constant practice, dedication, and a passion for seeking new growth opportunities.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, and thank you for the opportunity to share my story. My name is Harsha Chathuranga, and I’m a UI/UX, web, and graphic designer with a decade of experience. I am passionate about creating meaningful and impactful designs that look beautiful and solve problems for my clients.
I got into the design industry when I was still in college and started working as a freelance graphic designer. Since then, I’ve worked with many talented individuals and companies across various industries, helping them grow their brands through my design work.
As a designer, I provide various services, including UI/UX, web, and graphic design. I enjoy working with clients to help them achieve their goals and solve their design challenges. One thing that sets me apart from others in the industry is my ability to collaborate closely with clients and understand their needs and preferences to create designs that truly reflect their brand.
Last year, I was honored to receive the Bronze Award from Bestweb.LK for having the best personal website. This achievement has been a significant milestone in my journey and has given me valuable support for my future career aspirations. I believe that good design can make a huge difference in the success of a business, and I am committed to helping my clients achieve their goals through great design.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
As a creative professional, my main goal is to use my skills and expertise to help individuals and companies grow their brands and achieve their goals. I desire to create impactful and meaningful designs that look great and solve problems for my clients. In addition to this, I am always striving to improve my skills and stay up-to-date with the latest design trends and technologies to provide the best possible solutions for my clients. Ultimately, my mission is to help businesses succeed and positively impact the world through design.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Absolutely! There are two books that have had a significant impact on my management and entrepreneurial thinking: “Alibaba: The House That Jack Ma Built” by Duncan Clark and “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson. “Alibaba” provided valuable insights into the mindset and approach of Jack Ma, the founder of the e-commerce giant Alibaba. The book highlights Ma’s persistence, innovative spirit, and commitment to creating a better world through technology. It also offers a glimpse into Ma’s challenges while building his company and how he overcame them.
Another book that has influenced my thinking is “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson. The book provides an in-depth look into the life and work of one of the most innovative and influential entrepreneurs of our time. It offers insights into Steve Jobs’ management style, innovation approach, and his unwavering commitment to excellence. Reading these books has helped me understand the importance of focus, determination, and creativity in building a successful business.
Overall, I highly recommend these books to anyone looking to gain insights into the mindset and approach of successful entrepreneurs and leaders. Reading books, watching videos, and consuming other resources related to management and entrepreneurship are essential for anyone looking to develop their skills and knowledge in these areas. There is always something new to learn, and these resources can provide valuable insights and inspiration for anyone looking to start or grow a business.
