We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Harris Choe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Harris below.
Harris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I strongly believe that passion and self-awareness are key factors in becoming a successful business owner. Starting a business is a difficult journey; however, if you build a business around your passions, you’ll never lose the fire that started in the first place. In addition, having the self-awareness to know your own strength and weaknesses is key. As a young business owner, you’ll want to do everything on your own, but knowing when to ask for help and to delegate tasks can exponentially help with the growth of your business.
A turning point in my business was when I came to a point where I didn’t want to copy everyone else on social media. I wanted to form my own identity based on my own strengths. That helped me reduce the level of imposter syndrome that often invades my mind.
Harris, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with my Bachelors of Science in Psychobiology in 2015. I completed my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California in 2019 and continued my orthopedic residency there as well. I served as adjunct faculty at the USC graduate program and worked with orthopedic surgeon from Keck USC, Kerlan-Jobe, and many more. I currently run my own practice, HYC Physio, in Santa Monica, helping people eliminate chronic pain and return to high performance.
I provide performance-based physical therapy from the youth to professional athletes. I also collaborate with health/wellness brands such as Therabody and Tonal to create content to help educate the public. In addition, I also host interactive workshops for the active community to provide self-help tools to reduce risk of injury and improve exercise mechanics.
At HYC Physio, we pride ourselves in the unique approach to physical therapy that combines rehab and sports performance to provide individualized care for each client. A majority of our clients have had pain for many years and have seen multiple health professionals, but our approach has helped them return to pain-free performance.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for myself has been the ability to help clients achieve pain-free performance and provide self-help instructions for future proactive care. The word of mouth referrals from the community have been amazing and I am always thankful for our clients for trusting us with their care.
In addition, in the new age of social media, generating organic leads through Instagram, Tik Tok, and Youtube have been priceless.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Providing care that is client-focused has been pivotal. At HYC Physio, we listen to the stories of each client and provide individualized rehab programs for each individual. Every intervention and exercise we provide is tailored towards the goals of each individual. That has helped us stand out from the other professionals in the area. In addition, building genuine relationships with our clients and local fitness coaches has helped me build a network of like-minded professionals.
