We recently connected with Harriet Burnette and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Harriet, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be in the creative/actistic field. I have been singing since I was around as long as I can remember.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in a small town called Whitakers NC. I am the mother of two young men and grandmother of four awesome granddaughters. I developed my love for singing at a very young age and have been singing ever since, By the time I enter High School I had developed my singing, I was introduced to modeling my senior year not knowing that years later it would become a blessing. After attending Winston Salem University, majoring in music, I relocated to Washington DC where I started my group Del-Carlos Production Models in 1985. Since then, I have been mentoring and training young people through various workshops, as well as one on one sessions. I was introduced to acting in 2013. Today I have had the opportunity and honor of being in several stage plays, featured in two episodes of TVone Fatal Attraction and several movies on Amazon Prime and Tubu TV. In 2022, I became Spokesperson for the apparel line Peace Is Peaceless by Mr, Acy Brown. My ability to spend the time with our youth, recognizing their strengths and helping them to realize their full potential is what is important to me. The proudest moment for me is when someone comes to me and says thank you, that because you I was able to go after my dream. That makes me feel so blessed. My goal in life is to reach back and give back to our youth as it was given to me. I have four beautiful granddaughters that look up to me. I live to set a good example for them.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to portray many different characters through my acting and making the believable by my audience. In my 40 years of modeling and teaching it, my soil purpose is to portray confidence, poise, high self-esteem and love for oneself from the inside out. My reward is to be able to reach as many children and adults as possible to achieve their goals and seeing them make it.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is and always have been is to show our youth that life has many great things in store for them. It doesn’t matter how long it takes or what obstacles they face, just keep the faith, never give up and believe.
