Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Harper Mundy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Harper, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My latest release, “Kitchen Floor” is so meaningful to me. Not only is it a song I’m very proud of, it was a dream made into reality by a team of close friends and people who believe in me. The song itself was written by myself and Hannah Cole, produced by my great friend Tanner Ledford, and visually realized by Evan Carr and Preston Eggert (THIS2). Preston also directed, shot, and edited the music video, and Evan starred in it alongside me. In addition to this incredible team of friends who have come alongside me to make this song into what its become for me, it would be nowhere without my consistent and wonderful friends, family members and supporters who continually watch and share the content I put out surrounding it & supporting me at shows. It’s crazy how an idea can snowball into the song that’s really starting to get my career as a musician off the ground.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Harper Mundy, I”m a Nashville based artist & songwriter. I combine honest and powerful lyrics with lighthearted indie pop production to create a fun and fresh sound- something that makes me a “standout in the music scene” according to Lightning 100. I was born & raised in Kansas City, then moved to Nashville in 2018 where I graduated from Belmont University with a degree in Commercial Voice & Songwriting.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
SHOW UP!! If your friend or an artist you like is playing a show, show up & bring friends! It is so easy to support from afar, like Instagram posts and share YouTube videos, listen to a song they put out, etc. However one of the biggest things you can do to support artists is to just show up. Artists need an audience- buy a ticket, get a drink, have a fun night and support your favorite artists!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
There is such a balancing act us independent artists have to walk between creating art and running a small business. Not only do we need to be consistently creating new music, but we have to be content creators, social media coordinators, booking agents, stylists, influencers, and still pay rent. It’s all for something you love to do, but you end up doing six jobs at once. It’s easy to get lost in the business of being a musician. So, we end up hibernating for a month at the end of the year if it’s possible in order to allow ourselves to be creative again.
