We were lucky to catch up with Harold Frazee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Harold, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’ve been a musician all my life. I can’t really remember a time when I wasn’t playing an instrument. The quick story is..after high school I went off to Berklee College of Music and while there was playing in several different local bands when I took the first of many big risks. Left Boston, sent my equipment and belongings across the country, dropped everything and joined a 13 pc traveling show band. After a while of touring it was time for another… quit that band and created an original rock band looking for the deal and yes..traveling.
Eventually moved back to the east coast and joined a Wedding/Party Band (with lots of traveling). Very successful 20 yrs (time to raise the family of 5 kids) when I got the opportunity to become a full time music teacher 1 mile from my house. It was a HUGE cut in pay but why not take another risk…
A few years ago I came down with cancer and had quite a battle. It was during then I decided that it was time to take the biggest risk of all. Retire from teaching and focus on writing and recording music. So I left a job with regular income and benefits (I waited until I was 1 yr cancer free) and invested in my studio.
I now spend every day focused on writing and promoting my music, primarily for the Sync world. In less than a year I’ve made incredible contacts and have quite a lot of music pending Synchronization. Best business I’ve ever made.

Harold, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As mentioned before, I’m a lifer in the music business. I live and breathe it every day. As a music teacher I have brought people into very successful careers in the business. As a creator I can adapt to almost any style, I’ve worked in studios as a musician, producer, associate producer, composer you name it for quite a few varying styles.
Now as a full time composer I am able to take peoples ideas and turn them into music. Haroldfrazeemusic is the music leg of the parent company “Frassell Publishing” which represents not only the music but. Spoken Word, Voice Over, Written Word (books) and Artwork.
Our forte is adaptability and creativity.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The hard truth is that in general “society” will not be able to support creatives. Society is driven by corporate so it’s up to the creatives to CREATE their audience. This is where the beauty of social platforms comes in.
It’s time for us creatives to expand into that world or partner up with someone who can do that with them. There are independent artist making it work out there without the backing of the larger companies.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Every time I write a new song or poem or create a piece of art I feel like I’m doing what I’m here to do. While that might sound a bit new age the reality is that we all are born with ( God given imho) talents and it is wasteful to not use them. Not necessarily for a living but nurture them in some way.
So every time I create, I feel I’m doing my job on the planet.
