We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hao Wen (Claudia) Chung. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hao Wen (Claudia) below.
Hi Hao Wen (Claudia), thanks for joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
As far back as I can recall, I have always been a creative soul. Art and crafts have always captivated me, and my parents have confirmed this. They still vividly remember the day I announced my decision to attend college to study design. Their lack of surprise wasn’t surprising; it seemed as though they had always known my passion for creativity. I was fortunate enough to have their unwavering support throughout my educational and professional journey.
After completing my bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, I joined a branding design consulting agency. I was drawn to the idea of giving things a purpose and a distinct look through creativity. I worked as a full-time designer and creative with ease and little to no hesitation. It felt like this was the path I was meant to take and the career I would choose time and time again.
Despite my certainty in my chosen career, I do sometimes imagine what my life would be like if I had discovered different talents and held a different 9-5 job. However, at the end of the day, I always choose what brings me happiness and fulfillment. The joy of creating things and helping clients bring their vision to life through visuals is something I couldn’t have imagined if I had chosen a different path. Despite the occasional reassessment of the time and energy I put in, the rewards and growth I receive make it all worth it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a Taiwanese artist and visual designer, I split my time between Taipei and Brooklyn, New York, pursuing my passions as a graphic designer and artist in addition to my day job. I specialize in delivering value to brands through design and transforming ideas into visual languages.
With a decade of experience in the field, I have helped a diverse range of clients across various industries bring their branding visions to life through visual identities, marketing materials, events, editorials, and digital content. From education and consumer goods to finance and technology, I have worked on branding projects for some of the most recognizable firms in the world.
I have intentionally chosen to work as a freelancer for the past few years, seeking new challenges and the freedom to collaborate with different clients and gain a wide range of experiences. This journey has honed my design skills and refined my ability to manage my time, schedule, client relationships, and communications.
I have gained invaluable knowledge through collaborations with talented individuals and incredible experiences. My holistic approach, combining my business acumen and design expertise, sets me apart. Outside of work, I have a deep passion for photography and pottery. I view art as a sacred space where I can express myself spiritually and pour my emotions and thoughts into a non-judgmental zone. Art continues to inspire me and bring joy to my life and design.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Bringing a new idea or design to fruition is reward enough for me. The satisfaction of contributing to the world and receiving recognition and appreciation from clients and the community is truly fantastic. As designers, we make the world a better place by solving problems and creating a more enjoyable experience for people. At the same time, artists change the world by expressing their thoughts and sparking conversations that lead to change. Observing even the smallest of these changes is deeply fulfilling.
Being an artist is also a constant journey of self-discovery and growth. The creative process requires introspection, and art manifests these reflections at a given time. Through this process, I gained a deeper understanding of myself and experienced growth. As a creative, I am constantly aware of my impact on the world and strive to grow and evolve with it. The personal growth resulting from this is my work’s most rewarding aspect.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
As a designer, my goal is to inspire and be inspired by others constantly. I strive to create work that adds value for clients, collaborators, and the public. I am also motivated by seeing others bring their ideas to life and showcase their hard work to the world. This display of creativity, determination, consistency, and courage inspires me.
I am committed to continuous learning and being adaptable and resilient in my creative pursuits. Driven by my natural curiosity, I am constantly seeking new knowledge and eager to bring my ideas to life. Currently, I am particularly interested in exploring how designers can adapt to the evolving technology and AI landscape we are now a part of. Above all, I am passionate about my creative journey and plan to remain so for life.
