We recently connected with Hannington Odido and have shared our conversation below.
Hannington, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I can definitely say that I am happier as an artist and creative. Being able to express myself and bring ideas to life through animation is incredibly fulfilling. I have found great understanding in the technical and artistic challenges that come with the field, and it’s a true joy to see my work come to life on screen, Not to mention the personal growth I see after the completion of every project.
I got the opportunity to work as a translator last year in search of a more stable work environment. But what i found ultimately was that the idea of a ‘secure’ job is one that is a bit too embellished, I had chosen a path of fear masked as practicality.
What I got from that experience was that each work environment brings with it numerous challenges and it is a personal duty to choose the path that is in line with my own career aspirations and serving the world through my talents.

Hannington, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Hannington Odido, I also go by Tony. I’m a freelance 3D generalist at Anansi Studios. I’ve always been attracted to the concept of animation; seeing all the different styles each specific to their artist, the wide range of practicality(commercial advertising, film, anatomy videos, music visuals etc)
I got into the industry as a film student in 2018 teaching myself 3d sculpting before learning other parts of the trade later on(rigging, modelling etc)
Currently as a freelance animator, I provide clients with 3D videos for their Films, Architechtural renders, music videos and explainer/educational videos. Hopefully in future venture into the gaming industry as well.
What I would say sets me apart from most is my constant drive, discipline and growth.
What I am most proud of right now is a short film I am working on. I had quite the experience while on setting the design and it is proving to be my most challenging project yet.
By brand is largely a mix of film/cinematography with 3D structure/art. I enjoying stretching the limits of what I’ve done before and also bringing the clients’ ideas to life, nothing compares.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The E-Myth Revisited” by Michael Gerber. This book really opened my eyes to the importance of systems and processes in running a successful business. It taught me that in order to truly scale and grow, you need to be able to step back and look at your business objectively, and then put systems in place to manage it effectively.
Another book that had a big impact on me is “The 4-Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferriss. This book showed me that it’s possible to break free from the 9-5 grind and create a business that gives you the freedom to live the life you want. It’s all about being strategic and efficient with your time, and not being afraid to think outside the box. And lastly, “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius really helped me develop my mental fortitude and resilience which are crucial for any entrepreneur. It’s a book that I keep coming back to, and it’s always been a source of inspiration and guidance for me.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
With NFTs, we can now prove ownership of digital assets in a way that wasn’t possible before. Artists and creators can now monetize their work directly, and it’s opening up a whole new world of possibilities. But it’s not just about buying and selling art, NFTs have the potential to be used in ways that we haven’t even imagined yet. It’s an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see where this technology takes us.
