Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Van Woert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I have a complicated relationship with social media. It’s a vital social proof method for any business and a wonderful way to build a community. I personally believe that a brand’s social presence is just as important as its website quality. If both components are done well, together they build incredible trust and credibility for a business.
However, as a small business owner, managing a good social account can really be a challenge as it can be a full-time job in and of itself. I have always managed my own social accounts, except at one point when I was so busy with client work that I simply didn’t have the time. I neglected my account for weeks and noticed a major decline in engagement and website traffic.
I luckily had the ability to outsource my Instagram account to a social media management agency. I committed to three months. Overall, my experience was fantastic. I learned to delegate a task that wasn’t bringing me joy, which freed up my mental space to focus on client work. I didn’t have to worry about what to post next or take time out of my day to engage with followers. But once the three-month experiment was over, I decided not to continue working with the agency.
Why? Low return on investment. Working with a social media manager requires a hefty financial commitment. While the peace of mind and free headspace was wonderful, social media management wasn’t earning me any money in return. I ultimately decided to take back over my social management myself and outsource other aspects of my business instead.
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I help wellness professionals feel total confidence in their brand. As a branding expert and web designer with over a decade of experience, I’ve crafted a collection of website templates specifically for wellness and beauty spaces to create their ideal websites without anxiety.
I also often work with clients one-on-one to compose striking brands that command their worth, create authenticity, and build trust. In my unique approach for templated and custom work, I ensure each business connects with its clients on a deeper level through personality building and storytelling.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clients has been referrals. This is where all my best clients have come from as well. I put a lot of energy into community building by joining coaching groups, getting involved with local businesses, and networking at conferences. I find it much easier to build genuine connections that way. When I get new leads from those avenues, they tell their friends about me causing my community and client base to grow even further! It’s a gratifying way to get clients.
Plus one way to guarantee referrals is by serving people brilliantly. I ensure each client’s experience knocks their expectations out of the park.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are three books I tell every entrepreneur to read. You Are A Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero is essential reading to establish an abundant money mindset. Hype Yourself by Lucy Warner is fantastic at explaining PR specifically for small business owners. And most recently, I gobbled up Alex Hormozi’s $100 Million Offers which doesn’t exactly what the tagline says: helps you create irresistible offers that people feel stupid saying ‘no’ to.
