We recently connected with Hannah Schoendaler and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
As a child, I knew I was being called to the medical field, which is the field I started in at the age 14 and continue to thrive in today. I had a passion for effective processes and procedures and following nursing school, found myself craving that type of role. I spent a year working in bedside nursing before transitioning to the role of Chief Nursing Officer. I spent 6 1/2 years in the role, where I felt a nudge to try something new. The last 5 months of my CNO career was spent transitioning into the COVID-19 shelter in place erra. It was during that time that I saw my friends and patients spending a lot of time with themselves. I saw many people searching for ways to improve their health and appearance and saw a window of opportunity. For several years, I had thought about “wellness” and how I could incorporated it into conventional healthcare as the CNO but could never truly set the dreams assail. My desire to provide a safe place for people to experience self-revival continued to show up in many aspects of my life-through friends, family, patients, celebrities. I decided to reach out to Dr. Jill Stewart, MD and Kristina Dreher, FNP to see if they would be willing to work with me to provide a safe place to combine conventional, non-conventional and aesthetic care to clients in the area. With a like minded dream for this type of healthcare, they both agreed to partner with me. I truly believe that the hardest place to sit is alone with the person you never hoped to be. At Revive, we want to help them with a calm environment and services that make them feel like they are he best version of themselves they can be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I struggled for several years with acne, unhealthy skin, unwanted hair and no close place to go to help me find solutions to those services. I knew the insecurities this provided me and I, along with my partners, wanted to prevent others from experiencing these struggles. We are passionate about inclusivity. Everyone should feel comfortable walking through our doors and the “Revive” name is the pillar of our business. Whether you are looking for revival of health, skin, inner peace, we want to provide a space for people to experience this. When I began looking at the business model, I was seeking a personal self-revival. My eating, work/life balance, spirituality and calling were all misaligned. I spent a few months on my self-revival-started eating better, moving more, surrounding myself with motivated peers and to which the momentum for Revive & Co. Studio was born. My partner Kristina is passionate about health and fitness along with acne prone skin. She is wonderful and consulting with clients about their diet and its effect on the skin as well as supplments and dietary changes they can make to feel their best. She brought in the acne specific skin care lines as well as our amazing supplement line. Dr. Stewart believes in treating the whole patient as well as finding the best techniques and products to back the procedures and consulting that is done. She is approachable and her patients love her.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In a small town like Hoxie, it’s sometimes hard to find business space in a location that promotes the growth of your business. I had spoke to a few different individuals about space. Looking back now, explaining my “why” of the business and not taking no for an answer may have been the ticket into my space. I knew I was passionate about this new journey and when I approached the building owners, I wanted them to know that I valued them and their space and that I planned to bring new services to the community as well as be a respectful tenant. I’d had our attorney draft subleasing agreements to show that I was serious inquiry. Through this, I landed on main street with a storefront that the landlord agreed to let us update to fit our business. We are still so grateful for her!
Have you ever had to pivot?
When you start your own business, it’s hard to know when you’ll start bringing home money from it. Running your own business sometimes means working another job to truly set your dreams on fire. I decided to start travel nursing so I could work 3 12 hour shifts and make more money than a typical 4-5 day work week. This allowed me to work in the Studio while still making money. I went to a workshop and the speaker said “making a dream work is hard, but don’t give up. If you have to work 2 jobs to make your dream a reality, work 2 jobs”. I kept telling myself that. I have a whole new respect for brave individuals that start their own businesses
