We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My team’s mission at Summit Learning is to provide engaging, accessible academic and social-emotional support for students who think and learn differently. I started my career as a classroom teacher and while I enjoyed the community and excitement of the classroom environment, I noticed that many learners needs were not met in the larger classroom environment. This led me to go back to school for educational therapy and start my own practice. As an educational therapist, it’s my job to help each individual students discover how they learn best, by providing tailored skill remediation and strategy building. Ultimately the goal is to help students enjoy the learning process and become confident and independent students!
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in a family of teachers so was instilled with a passion for education at an early age. After working as a classroom teacher for 6 years, I found that I loved working with those learners who needed a little extra help to meet their goals. I enjoyed the challenge of helping to solve the puzzle of how to best support a struggling learner. This led me into the field of educational therapy. At Summit Learning, my team of educational therapist and I work with students with ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other learning challenges. We provide skill building through hands-on activities, movement, games and other engaging learning opportunities. We also help each student build their unique toolbox of learning strategies to support their independent learning. My ultimate goal is to bring back the joy to learning for our students!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
In my work it’s incredibly important to foster a connection not only the students we work with, but as their parents and teachers. In order for learners to succeed, all parties need to be on the same page about the student’s goals and victories. We send progress updates to parents and teachers on a quarterly basis. On top of that we regularly email or text pictures of student work from sessions or strategies to try at home. This helps the work we do in sessions continue in the home as well.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele is building trusting relationships. When people have a positive relationship with you, they are more likely to refer you! It has been essential for me to connect with psychologists, nuero-psychologists and local schools in order to meet more families.
