We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Ries. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.
Hannah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission and the sole reason I started The Ries House is to give individuals, especially new moms, a way to find themselves through creativity. In creating new spaces within their homes, anyone taking in these projects is creating a space that truly fits and functions with their lives, their families and their person style.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My page started shortly after the birth of my oldest son – I was deep in the grasp of postpartum depression and was quickly losing myself in new motherhood. I found a side of Instagram that had people who had never picked up power tools prior to starting their accounts teaching women like me to create. To build anything from a kids table to a massive basement overhaul. I was inspired. I fought to find myself and this platform is the culmination of that fight – and I hope whoever sees my page, can see my struggle and feel supported in theirs as well.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A big lesson that I had to unlearn in order to real dive into this space was the thought that I can’t do something because I have no experience. That’s simply not true, for anyone. You can do anything, if you’re willing to take a chance and work for it.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
One thing that I pride myself on is that my projects are realistic from start to finish – and part of that includes cost. My husband and I work modest jobs, make a modest, middle class living, and are raising two children in a society that isn’t always budget friendly. In doing the work to update our second home, we self fund all projects – we save, we find budget options, and we love a good hack or a big price knock off. Having a home you love is doable – let me show you how.
