Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Plonsky. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?

Personally, I believe what it takes to be successful is full venerability and true authenticity. Starting out as a photographer, I thought I needed to capture the perfect photo and show my best work always. I quickly realized, that was not for me. Being myself, showing the raw moments of the day, documentary style was what resonated with me the best. My brand is centered around nature and my personality. Being vulnerable and being myself, allows me to connect with my clients on a much greater level.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Hannah Plonsky, I am a Wedding and Couple Photographer based in southern Minnesota. I first got into photography when my first child was born. I knew I wanted to capture the moments as he grew up, but not just on my phone. As I captured the milestones as my first child grew up, it wasn’t until my second child was born that, I soon realized how much of a creative outlet photography became for me. I prayed over my business, and surrendered it to Lord, and from there on, Hannah Marie Photography, has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I have now been capturing weddings for 3 years, and have met the most kind, encouraging people throughout the process. As I built my brand, I knew I always wanted to stay true to me and make sure my personality and interests were reflected throughout it. One thing I included in my brand, was the love for the outdoors. Every location is highly thought out, and I pay attention to what flowers are blooming in that area, throughout each season. I love to intertwine my couples within the landscape of where we are shooting, and make sure the story of the night is told within the photos.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a photographer in the creative industry has to be the clients reactions to the photos. We all use our phones to take photos of everyday, but being able to see yourself through the lens is completely different. As a photographer, I pay attention to every aspect of your photo from lighting, to angle, to background, you name it. So when clients see the photos, they are just looking at themselves, and seeing the true beauty of themselves, not distracted by people in the background, bad lighting, things in their hands, as we often capture those everyday moments with.

I often see clients “shocked” or amazed by the photos, but being a creative, I feel as if I see that right off the top when I first meet my clients. Every single person is absolutely beautiful and being able to show them just how beautiful they are is the most rewarding aspect of photography.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

I believe the best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth from past clients. This is the upmost compliment, in my opinion. I see it as, the client had a great experience, and they trust me to create that experience for their friend, family, acquaintance, etc. The client experience from beginning to end is very important. I always joke with my clients that, I feel after all of the communication and planning, we could be best friends. By creating relationships between me and my clients, it allows us to connect and allows comfortability when it comes to getting in front of the camera. Even still to this day, whenever I get in front of the camera, it can be a little nerve-racking, but if I have someone behind the camera that I know, who is having fun with me, and encouraging me, it makes the process so much more relaxing and enjoyable. That is exactly the atmosphere I try and achieve with my clients.
