We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Patterson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.
Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
At the heart of my artistic learning and growth lies a deep curiosity, a daily commitment to the creative process, and a relentless drive to master my craft. Over time, I’ve learned to balance this “rage to master” with a wabi-sabi approach, allowing the beauty of imperfection and the natural asymmetry found in nature to inspire my work. It’s this combination of passion, dedication, acceptance and exploration that allows me to continually push my boundaries and evolve as an artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an abstract painter and mixed-media artist, creating textured, luminous works with vibrant energy. My signature style blends mineral rich clay and acrylics, resulting in pieces that shimmer and evolve with the changing light. My approach involves recycling and repurposing materials to sustainably create something new and beautiful that adds a special energy to the space it occupies.
I love collaborating with design teams to craft site-specific art that reflects the unique spirit of a space.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the flow state the creative process induces within me. Creating art allows me to transcend mental chatter and find solace from anxiety, connecting more deeply to myself and nature.
Beyond the personal well-being benefits, the act of bringing the unknown into tangible form feels deeply meaningful. Witnessing an idea evolve from concept to a physical reality is incredibly fulfilling for me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a deep desire for freedom and exploration. Being an artist allows me to be in continual connection to my intuition. I’m provided the space to honor my energy and nurture my well-being with an outlet for my expression and continuous learning and growth, aspects essential to my sense of self and fulfillment.
Being a working artist and creating meaningful work is the goal itself, as it allows me to live my life in alignment of my values and strengths.
