We recently connected with Hannah Park and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I think the biggest risk I’ve ever taken was quitting my full-time job to pursue something else, even though that meant taking a huge pay cut. At the time I wasn’t sure what I wanted but I knew it was anything but my current job. Unfortunately the pandemic hit shortly after I had quit, businesses and offices were closing down, and it was tough to find a new job. I kind of took this as a blessing in disguise because this gave me a lot of time to focus on things I really enjoyed which was photography. During the pandemic, every day I would find new things to learn about shooting and practice as well. One thing led to another, which helped me to get my foot in the door and I started freelancing! Quitting my job was probably one of the most scariest risks I’ve ever taken on but it was truly life changing and I have zero regrets.
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Photography has always been a hobby of mine. I traveled a lot back then and would always make videos and take photos. I just wanted a job that I actually enjoyed doing so I decided to pursue that as a career and here we are now! I offer both photo and video services; at the moment I am doing more fashion related work. I believe what sets me apart is being versatile with my shooting – it ranges from anything to weddings, fashion, food, events, cars, and even music videos.
What I’m most proud of is overcoming all the hardships, to keep going, and being able to work with other artists/brands that I love. It’s been quite the journey and I still have more goals and accomplishments that we need to get checked off!
Have you ever had to pivot?
A few times when business started slowing down, I would get a part-time job so I could stay busy and have extra money on hand if worse came to worse. I didn’t mind having a part-time but what got me was whenever I would start one, I would have so many people reach out to me for work and timing just never seemed to be on my side. It took some time to learn, but I learned to eventually trust the process and to stay calm when push comes to shove.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to be express your style and creativity freely and being able to collaborate with others is definitely also a plus.
