Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Obremskey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I have managed my social media all by myself. My background consists of a degree in Public Relations and I was hired as a Digital Marketing Specialist for a corporate company right out of college. My passion for photography began when I started a blog in college. That blog turned into a social media platform where I taught workshops on growing your brand online. I also did social media consulting for influencers and brands. Being a content creator was a passion that I turned into a photography business. I love curating content weekly that showcases my work, relationships with clients and life as a business owner in a creative and authentic way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am 27 years old and was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I grew up around the music industry, events and entrepreneurs. I always knew that I wanted to work for myself, but most of all, I have always loved photography. I was 11 years old when I asked my parents for my first camera. I still have that little red camera to this day!
I went off to college at Western Kentucky University as a Public Relations Major and Event Planning Minor. I started falling in love with the wedding industry instantly.
For the past five years, I have worked as a Wedding Day Coordinator, Executive Assistant for a wedding florist, Wedding Entertainment Manager for an entertainment agency in Nashville, Bridal Stylist in Nashville and Greenville, SC and the list goes on. Through all those positions as I was trying to find out what I truly wanted to do, I realized I always had a camera in my hand.
Between my jobs, I started a health and wellness blog called Kerrageously Made my Sophomore year of college. This lifestyle and wellness blog served as my online journal as I was recovering from an eating disorder. This recovery journey turned into a lifestyle and educational platform where I began collaborating with local businesses and influencers. I started to create workshops and mentorships for online branding and business building in hopes people felt loved, encouraged and beautiful. Photography played a large role in every aspect of my blog, business and hobbies.
After working multiple jobs and realizing how much I loved the atmosphere surrounding the wedding industry, I started offering just photography sessions to local bloggers and brides. From then on, I never looked back. I decided to combine my passion for weddings, sharing online, and the art of photography to start my own business, Hannah Obremskey Photography.
I now am a full time, destination wedding photographer. I moved from South Carolina to Birmingham, AL, where I offer wedding collections and lifestyle sessions. My work consists of true to tone images with warmth. That warmth makes my images romantic, artistic, yet timeless. Capturing classic moments in the most fun way is my mission. I want to use all of my past positions within my career to serve my couples in the best way I can. I think my experience within various parts of the wedding industry sets me a part. I am able to assist my brides with anything gown or veil related after being a stylist, I have put together floral arrangements in a hurry at weddings, and I know how to make them feel comfortable and confident in front of my camera lens.
I am most proud of starting my business from scratch, all by myself. Watching my income double without sitting in a cubicle all day and being named one of the top wedding photographers in Greenville for 2022 on Expertise.com was a dream come true!
I want my future brides to know most of all that I want to be a friend. I have been a bride through Covid, and I have seen so many weddings to know that at the end of the day, it all turns out okay, Building that trust with my couples is so important to me. I always talk on the phone, FaceTime or try to get coffee with my couples before we photograph so they get to know me and feel comfortable choosing someone to share their most special moments with.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started my brand on social media before Instagram became what it is now. I began blogging when I was 20 years old. I am now 27 running my entire photography business on social media. My advice to anyone starting out is to treat your social media like your store front. Show up on it as you would showing up to work. Brand yourself by staying consistent and relatable. I show my face weekly, I tag everything! What I’m wearing, where I was, etc. This shows people you are there and It has helped me start some amazing relationships in various cities.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being busy means success.
I have struggled with comparison as a business owner and creator for years. Who hasn’t? I used to think the more I did, the better it looked. I worked multiple jobs at once, created multiple social media accounts to show all the things I could do, etc. I would post photos without any reason just to share. I soon realized that none of those were making me feel successful or happy. I actually felt worse the more I added on and my work wasn’t my best.
When I stripped away the access: blogging, modeling, social media consulting, etc, and took time to build a vision board, train in photography, create a business plan, I finally felt more fulfilled.
