We were lucky to catch up with Hannah Nana Adwoa Mills recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah Nana Adwoa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
In the light of starting a fashion brand, I wanted something unique to represent where I come from.. in Africa there are many unique fabric designs and my aim was to bring these designs into the international and local market through clothing, Hence the name MY STYLE AFRICA..
As the name goes my style ( design) in African made fabrics ( AFRICA) considering all the unique and diverse cultures we have in Africa..
We also aim at combining African fabrics with western fashion trends and designs to create the ‘African Meets Western’ look.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Hannah nana Adwoa Mills, CEO OF MY STYLE AFRICA.. Growing up I love to fix things with my hands.. my passion for fashion grew more stronger in the university where I used to make African print Accessories for sale..
After a year of unemployment, I went back to what I love to do and that’s making accessories and clothing..
My brand seeks to make African print products ( clothing and accessories) readily available for the international market. We wanted to make it easy to buy or order products with easy..
Over the years we have served many customers internationally through platforms like Etsy and Afrikea..
Aside portraying the beauty of African, my style Africa aims at creating an African meets western look which is versatile for all.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Yes I manufacture the product myself.. After university I went to learn from an aunty who was into fashion design., she thought me the basics and I also took online classes to help me with trendy styles.
From producing my own products, I have learnt a lot.. fashion design requires a lot of investment, time and patience.. some clothing’s have to made 2 twice to get the kind of perfection you want out there in the market.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell on platforms like Etsy and Afrikea.. so far the journey on this 2 sites have been amazing.. it’s been a drive for me to work harder because you need to be posting items in order to get clients.. at the beginning it was a bit difficult because I was working alone and trying to achieve a lot at a time but now it’s different, even tho I still work alone I have been able to draw up a table that helps me satisfy these others n have new things posted.
I chose for Etsy and Afrikea is because it gave me the platform to sell internationally and also to other African countries.
