We were lucky to catch up with Hannah Kincaid recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

My motto is “be a sweet smell” the Bible tells us that Jesus’ sacrifice was a sweet smell and we should live the same way. I hope that my candles will remind people to live pleasing to others.

Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’m 12 years old when I was 10 I watched shark tank with my dad and wanted to start my own business so I started making phone holders with paper clips but tested it out with my dad’s phone and it didn’t work. Later on me and my dad watched something about candles and I decided I wanted to try it out and I enjoyed it.

It was fun at the beginning but as I went to more markets and made more candles I realized what work actually is. Getting ready for markets are a lot of work and making candles takes time but I’m proud that I have continued working hard and I am save up my money for College and a purple convertible. I want to be a dentist.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I have been saving money from my birthdays since I was three years old. My dad told me he could put the money in and our business would be divided half-and-half, or I could put all my money and it would be my business. So I decided to risk it and use my money and buy the wax, pots, jars, and scents to start. After I sold my first tested batches, I had enough money to buy a wax melter. And I continue to reinvest in my business.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best way I have found to sell candles is going to markets and setting up as a vendor, I have tried to sell through my website at
hosannacandles.com but still don’t see that many sales online.
