We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Hindsight being 20/20, I feel like a lot of business owners look back now and would consider starting their business before a global pandemic would take over everyone’s lives for the foreseeable future. But, even looking past that, I still wouldn’t change a thing about when I started my company. It was May 2020, and at that time I was at one of the lowest in my life in regard to my mental health. The full-time job that I was working was draining and taking up a lot of my time. I had been working in childcare for almost 10 years and I needed a major shift. So, I sat at home and started to research something that I had always been interested in and that was weddings. I saw multiple black-owned businesses on my social media, and I thought to myself, “Why not?” From that point on, I decided that I was going to do whatever it took to get my business off the ground, even though I had little experience. I took a step out on faith, and it’s paid off.
Hannah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been interested in weddings, ever since I was a little girl. I used to love looking at bridal magazines and watching all the bridal shows on television. I used to tell my mother growing up that I love the romance and whimsy surrounding the wedding day. Every detail is something that you’ve planned out and made exactly to your expectations and wishes. But, I never thought that I could make a career out of it. I had some initial ideas which were working in a bridal gown store or training with a floral designer, but in the end, those ideas never really got me excited. So I shifted my focus and really thought about what I loved about weddings, and that was the behind-the-scenes process. I love being able to plan out the bride’s vision and ideas and exceed their expectations. Rose Gold Bridal Events’ mission is to always exceed our client’s vision and expectations. We always want to make sure that we cater to our clients so that they can have the best experience. Your wedding is something that should be one-of-a-kind and unique to you, and we believe that’s what sets us apart as a business.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I always make sure to keep in touch with my clients beyond their wedding day. Many times, wedding vendor’s communications stop after the wedding day. But, we like to be different and make sure to keep in contact after the honeymoon and check in to see how the couple in doing while in their “newlywed bliss”. I love to send clients gifts after the wedding to help celebrate them on their marriage and wish them much love and happiness.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been social media. I think wedding vendors underestimate the power of Pinterest and Instagram and how much new business it can bring to them. We’re also able to showcase our work on there as well with multiple photos from previous weddings so it’s almost like free marketing and advertisement!
