Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Janell . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first realized that using my hands to create earrings was more than a talent to me, but a craft that allowed me to express myself and my individuality. I enjoyed keeping up with shorter hair cuts, and a way to bring out my facial features. I always bought earrings, but they weren’t as special to me as I wanted them to be. I fell in love with clay earrings when I made my first pair and never took them off. I was receiving a multitude of compliments. I took this opportunity to create a pair for friends and family, and expanded to peers in the community!
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Everyday after my full time job, I found myself in my kitchen always baking a new pair of earrings to relax. I was able to be as creative as I could with no restrictions. This was a perfect getaway from a corporate job. I have allowed customers to be able to express the little things they enjoy with their jewelry and within their everyday lifestyle. As being a Small Black Business Owner, every day there were obstacles- public events and internal thoughts, and overall second guessing myself and my ability. What has set me apart is being able to stay strong and be the small percentage of Small Black Business Owners that keep going no matter what. I am overly grateful for individuality and being able to listen to customers needs and wants in their products.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
There is a person for anything. Just because one person may not like your style, does not be mean that there are others that may enjoy it. I always thought when I wasn’t an artist that if “I” didn’t like it, majority wouldn’t, and sometimes its just the opposite
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to wear my own products and socialize about what I am wearing!
