We were lucky to catch up with Hannah Hughes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hannah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
I’m incredibly grateful to my parents for their unwavering support—it’s one of the things they’ve done so perfectly. I can’t recall a single time they discouraged me from pursuing something I was passionate about. Whether it was transferring to a university for better weather and palm trees, quitting a full-time job to take a break from burnout and go sailing for a while or deciding on a whim to become a painter in my free time, they’ve always encouraged me to follow my instincts. Their belief in me has taught me that no matter what happens, every experience is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My photography journey started when my parents gave me a camera as a kid. By the time I was in the fifth grade, I already knew my answer to “What do you want to be when you grow up?”—a photographer. I’ve worked hard ever since to turn that dream into reality.
One of the biggest milestones early on was getting the chance to shoot New York Fashion Week with Milk’s Made Studios while I was still in high school. Sitting at the end of the runway with other photographers made me realize that my dream could become my reality.
Now, I focus on photography and retouching. My work covers a lot of ground, from interior design and product photography to portraits and travel. Beyond that, I’ve started working on some graphic design projects, I sell my original paintings (check them out on Instagram: @lipservicestudios), and I even work freelance as a deckhand and stewardess on yachts and part-time at World Market. While photography remains my core focus, I love embracing a variety of creative and professional endeavors.
What I enjoy most is helping people and brands tell their stories through visuals, whether that’s through stunning photos or polished retouching. Retouching has become one of my favorite parts of the creative process—it’s so rewarding to see an image come to life in post.
I think what sets me apart is my versatility. I’m curious about everything and love capturing all kinds of subjects. I’ve never been able to stick to just one thing because there is so much to see, do, and learn from. Whether it’s finding beauty in the everyday or bringing out the best in a brand’s visuals, I approach every project with a fresh perspective.
I’m proud of the variety in my work and the relationships I’ve built along the way. From collaborating with brands to exploring new creative outlets like painting and design, I’ve created a career that reflects who I am and what I love. At the end of the day, I’m all about connecting with people through my work and staying open to whatever opportunities come next.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal as a photographer and artist has always been to inspire a deeper appreciation for the world. I want my work to encourage people to notice the beauty in the little things, to see places and moments from a new perspective. Whether it’s a portrait, a product, or a landscape, I hope my art makes people pause, reflect, and maybe see parts of the world in a new way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my work and my art resonates with people, whether it inspires them, brings beauty into their lives, or becomes a meaningful piece they’re proud to share and call their own. Seeing my creations spark emotions is what drives my passion and creativity
