Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Hastings . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I started my business in 2017. I had just graduated college and gotten married. I found myself in a very tough place as I was living with chronic unexplained pain (which was later diagnosed as endometriosis). This pain made it impossible to pursue a more typical job. I was a former fashion model so I already had a passion for clothing and thrifting. I took this opportunity to turn what I loved to do into a business. If I could go back in time, I absolutely wish I would’ve started my business when I was in college! It would’ve been a great income to have at that point in my life! At that time, I didn’t know reselling was an option. Overall I think my business began exactly when it was supposed to though.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I was 15 I was scouted and signed to a modeling agency. For the next 7 years I walked runways and did photo shoots. I was immersed into the fashion industry. I LOVED clothes and quickly realized a great way to find cool pieces you couldn’t get anywhere else was thrift stores. I started thrifting when I got my license at 16. I went to thrift stores all the time! I would but for myself and also for friends.
This love of clothing and thrifting never went away. Today, I still thrift shop multiple times a week. I list all of my unique finds on multiple online platforms for my customers to shop! Many people just don’t have the time to get into the thrift stores themselves, so I go sift through donated goods and cherry pick the best items for them to purchase!

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I sell my items on several platforms including: Poshmark, eBay, Curtsy, and DePop! The only con that I could give about these sites is they take a % fee. The pros far outweigh this fee though. I love that these platforms handle shipping, returns, and any issues.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Reselling can have a very low upfront cost. The first items I sold were items from my personal closet that I no longer wore. I would then take this money and spend it on more inventory. As the flips became bigger, so did the amount of inventory I was able to purchase. This is why reselling is an easy business to get into. If you treat it like a snowball effect, you can basically start with a $0 investment.
