We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Leboff a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In 2020 the pandemic hit and, at that time, I was a full-time singer/songwriter. I had a real “aha” moment that I no longer wanted to be a part of the music industry, no matter how long I’d been trying. It was a lifelong dream, but I came to terms with the fact that I was no longer happy and it was time to make a big change.
So I began teaching online zoom classes to friends who desperately wanted to move their bodies. Stuck in our tiny apartments, we all just wanted a release from the reality of the world around us.
I originally taught free sessions, but then I started getting booked up. It went from two friends to then teaching several group privates, to teaching fully sold out classes online to people I’d never met. I started getting certifications and buckling down on my branding and created Sweat with Hannah.
It was the best risk I had ever taken.
Hannah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I work in fitness and have been since 2017. It started as a side hustle because I have always loved working out, but once the pandemic hit I turned it into my full-time business. I have my own online platform called Sweat with Hannah which has over 300 videos on demand. The workouts combine strength and pilates, which are my favorite modalities. Videos are around 20 minutes or less to provide a quick yet challenging and effective workout for busy lifestyles (travelers, new moms, etc.).
In addition to my online platform I teach at three different studios in Los Angeles: Heimat, Heated Room, and Carrie’s Pilates Plus. I also do in-home and virtual privates.
It is a constant grind, but I can honestly say that I love what I do and I absolutely love making people feel stronger and more confident in their skin.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My business has grown exponentially through word of mouth and I take great pride in that because it shows that I have a strong connection with my clients. I wouldn’t be here today without them.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I started my Sweat with Hannah instagram in 2020 having no clue how to handle social media at the time. It is very much a labor of love and I have my moments when I get really frustrated, but I’ve learned it’s a process, and, like fitness, it takes time and consistent dedication for growth.
